The Highlanders' keeper is set to miss their games against Jamshedpur FC and Delhi Dynamos.
NorthEast United goalkeeper T.P. Rehenesh has been handed a further two-match ban by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) after being found guilty of violent conduct against ATK. The incident took place in the Highlanders' victory in Kolkata earlier this season. In the first half, Rehenesh was guarding his goal during a corner and after a scuffle, he ended up punching ATK’s defender Gerson Vieira in the throat.
Rehenesh has been impressive for NorthEast United so far this season and displayed an especially great performance against ATK. However, the hosts felt that they deserved a penalty and red-card for Rehenesh for the challenge on Gerson Vieira, which avoided the referee’s eyes somehow.
While the referee did not see that incident and let that go back then, AIFF took interest on the matter after receiving complains after the game. Rehenesh was suspended during NorthEast’s 4-3 victory at Chennaiyin FC last week, but his ban has been extended. The former East Bengal goalkeeper has also been fined ₹2,00,000 (Two Lakhs) for his shocking actions.

The AIFF Disciplinary Committee revealed in a statement that they had found Rehenesh guilty of committing the offense of “guilty conduct” under the Article 48.1 (v) and 48.6(ii) of the AIFF DC code.

Rehenesh’s ban means that Pawan Kumar will get a few more games to prove himself for the Highlanders, who are cruising in the Indian Super League so far this season.
Eelco Schattorie’s men have played impressive football in what has been a bright start to the ISL season. Not only did they pick up an important win against ATK, but they conjured a special comeback to upset Chennaiyin FC at their own home ground last week. Despite not having Rehenesh, the Highlanders played stunning football going ahead and were inspired by Bartholomew Ogebeche’s sensational hat-trick in the first half.
