The Brazilian forced a move last year to join his dream club but is now fighting for a place in the starting lineup.

Just over a year after his big money transfer from Liverpool, Philippe Coutinho is facing tough times at his new club Barcelona. Having scored just six goals this season in his 28 appearances in all competitions, the Brazilian star is clearly struggling at the Camp Nou.

Back in January last year, the 26-year-old switched sides to move to his dream club and wouldn’t have imagined that he would have to fight for a place in the starting lineup. The matters went from bad to worse for Coutinho when it was understood that the Catalan club is very likely to offload him at the end of the season if not during the ongoing winter transfer window.

Amidst the speculation revolving around his transfer, Paris Saint-Germain emerged as one of the names interested in acquiring the playmaker’s services. However, their relations with Barcelona aren’t understood to be quite good ever since Neymar’s world-record move back in 2017. Thus, even according to the Mirror, the La Liga giants will try to avoid selling Coutinho to the Ligue 1 giants.

However, that leaves them with only club as a genuine option, Manchester United. Now Coutinho still being a fan-favourite back at Anfield, watching him join their arch-rivals would be the last thing the Merseysiders would be wanting to happen. Yet, that cannot rubbish the fact that the Red Devils maybe in a pole position to sign Coutinho.

Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken over the reigns at Old Trafford, the club has been on cloud nine, winning each and every of the last eight fixtures. Now that raises a genuine question, do they really need Coutinho?

That leaves the former Inter Milan player in a dilemma. Many Liverpool fans are even suggesting to bring the ‘magician’ back at Anfield, an option which cannot be completely ruled out. With James Milner likely to leave Merseyside at the end of the season, Jurgen Klopp may need experienced legs in the midfield despite signing Fabinho and Naby Keita last summer.

Nevertheless, Sergio Busquets came for his teammate’s support saying there’s more for Coutinho at Camp Nou saying, “It's hard to come in when you don't usually play because you lack confidence and rhythm but I think Philippe is going to help us this season.”
