The Portuguese winger played for the Red Devils for six years from 2003 till 2009.

It has been a disappointing season for Manchester United as they have struggled in the Premier League and also bowed out of the Champions League against FC Barcelona.

United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly plotting kitty of £250million to make changes to his current side next season. The Red Devils are up for an overhaul this summer and there will be players from the current squad who make their way out for the reinforcements.

Solskjaer has already made a list of his potential targets in the summer, as he is looking at the new signings as inspiration that his struggling side requires next season.

Amid all the rumours Jesse Lingard, who is expected to stay at the club for next season opened up on the player he wants to play alongside at the Old Trafford.

Speaking to the Mirror: "I would love [Manchester United] to sign [Cristiano] Ronaldo. He has been one of the best players in the world over the last decade."

"He has been here before so he would slot right back in."

"Growing up he was just unbelievable to watch in a United shirt, so on a personal note it would be amazing to play with him."

Cristiano Ronaldo is still worshipped as a club legend by a lot of United fans after his six years of service at Old Trafford. The Portuguese talisman achieved everything with the Red Devils, starting from the Premier League to Champions League and it was definitely a period which kickstarted his career.

He then joined Real Madrid and grew in stature, even more, winning various accolades until he left for Serie A giants Juventus last season. The Bianconeri could only manage to win the Serie A this season and there have been rumours of Ronaldo hinting a move out of Turin.

Rumours of him returning to Old Trafford have been in contention for a long time in the past and Lingard is ready to add more fuel to the fire. Although it is very unlikely that a move such as that will take place and at the age of 34, chances of him returning to Old Trafford for a second spell looks bleak. United also have their priorities elsewhere for the next season.

Looking at the current scenario it seems United are on course to miss out on the top four finish and Champions League qualification next season. It is likely to affect the deals they are going to get next season, as most of the players want to join a club playing in the Champions League.

However the England international is confident that United can get back in the mix of next season if they start their campaign strongly. He also feels that the Red Devils needs consistency in their campaign if they have to compete against title contenders like Liverpool and Manchester City

“We have to put together a run of games like we did between January to April, I think we were on a par with both of them if not better."

“You've got to start the season fast otherwise you're constantly playing catch up. So yeah, a quick start.”

Solskjaer and his men have two games remaining in the Premier League to draw the curtains for this season and the Red Devils will look to finish the campaign on a high.
