Panjim Footballers down SCC Cavelossim in GPL

Panjim Footballers continued their superb form as they defeated Santa Cruz of Cavelossim 2-0 in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.
Panjim side were high on confidence after holding a defending champion Salgaocar FC to a high scoring 3-3 draw in the opening match, whereas as Cavelossim had suffered a solitary defeat at the hands of Guardian Angel SC in their first match.
Cavelossim coach Severino Fernandes made three changes bringing in Yogendra Thapa, Aaron Antao and Perryson Fernandes in the starting XI, while Panjim coach Anthony Vaz also made two changes to his side as newly signed striker Snedden Rodrigues found a place in the playing XI. Prisco Moura was the other change in the line-up.
After some attacking football from both the side in the first five minutes, it was Cavelossim who took the first shot on the goal when Darren Fernandes found Perryson Fernandes in the box with a low pass, who cut past a defender and drilled a powerful shot on the goal but Panjim keeper Gurpreet Singh collected it well.
While in the 15th minutes, Harshad Naik put Panjim ahead in the 15 minutes when he mystical shot crashed into the net making it 1-0 for the capital side. Panjim skipper Gautam Dias initiated the move through pass to Snedden from the centre, who brilliantly cut past a defender and found Harshad in the perfect position to score.
Rest of the session witnessed an end-to-end affair but in between this Cavelossim defender Richard Fernandes had the best chance to put the terms on the level but his powerful shot from inside the box sailed over the crossbar.

The capital city side took just six minutes after the resumption of play to add one more to their goal tally as this time Mahesh Kumar chested the ball into the goal from close made it 2-0 for his side. Harshad was the architect of the goal with a pin-point perfect cross from the right flank.
Down by two goals, Cavelossim showed some urgency in the attacking but their every move was cleared by Panjim’s last line. In one of these, Mathew Colaco found himself at the receiving end of the lob pass from Darren but his powerful shot from inside the box was brilliantly blocked by Panjim keeper Gurpreet for the corner.
With just hour mark crossed on the clock, Cavelossim wasted two opportunities as first, Semson Fernandes failed to connect from close, to Mathew’s cut-back pass and later, Moises D’Sa shot wide from the edge of the box with keeper Gurpreet out of position.
