The Manchester United boss has expressed his frustration at the lack of transfer activity at Old Trafford in recent weeks.

Just after the conclusion of their 4-1 thumping by Liverpool in the International Champions Cup in America, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho said that he is hopeful of one more signing before the Premier League's transfer window closes on 9th August.

In his traditional way of handling the media, the Manchester United gaffer gave plenty of insight on his views regarding the match against Liverpool, the pre-season tour and the unavailability of much of his squad.

"The match against Liverpool gave me nothing at all. The referee thought he was officiating a baseball game," the Portuguese said of the officiating in a match in which United conceded two goals from penalties.

This was United's first loss in their time in America and the tactician laid emphasis on the unavailability of most of his squad as the reason behind the dismal performance. "This is not even 30% of my squad. What about Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Antonio Valencia? This is our squad."

It is reported the Eric Bailly stood up in place of Chris Smalling and latter withdrew from the game with a injury sustained during the warm-up.

The United manager said: "Eric just felt it wasn't fair to the other players to throw another kid on the pitch. We are trying to play these matches as best we can and to avoid ugly defeats, but this one gave me nothing at all."

He did not spare the club's captain Valencia as he blamed him for taking too much rest, "Antonio Valencia had too much holiday and returned in poor condition."

"Alexis (Sanchez) is the only attacking player we have. We don't have wingers or strikers. He is the only one who is here and he is trying his best with the frustration of someone who wants more."

Since the start of the trip, Mourinho has been vocal about the level of expectations and had already warned about the possibility of some disastrous results in the US. The Red Devils lost Matic and Valencia to injury, while Anthony Martial flew back to Europe for the birth of his second child and his failure to return did not go down well with Mourinho.

It is believed that Mourinho wants at least two more players, including a right winger- a position that has been problematic for quite some time at Old Trafford- and a centre-back. The English outfit have been linked with Leicester City's Harry Maguire and Tottenham Hotspur's Toby Alderweireld, while Mourinho has expressed an interest in Real Madrid's Raphael Varane, Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng and Inter Milan's Milan Skriniar.

"I would like two more players. I don't think I'm going to have two," he said. "I think it's possible I'm going to have one. I gave my club a list of five names a few months ago. I wait to see if it's possible to have one of these players."
