The former Sevilla and Valencia manager heaped praise on the Reds’ high-quality signings from last season.

As the year 2018 comes to an end, league leaders Liverpool host fifth-placed Arsenal at Anfield in a mouthwatering clash on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are yet to face a single defeat in the Premier League as they are the frontrunners in the race for the title. Having conceded just seven goals till now, the team have one of the most impenetrable defences not just in England, but all over Europe.

Their solid run of form suggests they might pull off a repeat of the Invincibles season of Arsenal back in 2004. However, Unai Emery’s Gunners will do everything to stop the Reds from achieving that feat.

Ahead of the clash, the Gunners’ boss spoke with Sky Sports about the chance his team stand in the game. Moreover, the Spaniard went on to talk about Mohamed Salah - the Reds’ talismanic forward, who broke lots of records last season. He admitted that during his managerial stint with Ligue 1 giants Paris-Saint Germain, he had the chance to sign the Egyptian, but hesitated from doing so as he doubted his ability.

Nevertheless, the 26-year-old arrived at Anfield last season in a 42m deal from Roma and went on to score a staggering 59 goals in 78 matches across all competitions. Having netted 32 goals in the league, the former Chelsea, Fiorentina and Basel player won the Premier League Golden Boot award last campaign along with other individual trophies such as the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, Football Writers’ Player of the Year as well as the FIFA Puskas Award for his wonder-goal against Everton.

Talking about the possibility of signing Salah at PSG Emery said, “We had some doubts - and then he signed for Liverpool and these doubts he has broken at Liverpool. Now, if you are speaking about the five top players in the world, one is Salah.”

The 47-year-old said he was unsure whether the pacey winger would deliver if he signed for a big club. “For example like PSG in Paris. And today I can say to you...if we signed him, we signed one player in the top five in the world.”

Furthermore, the former Sevilla, Spartak Moscow and Valencia manager also highlighted the Reds’ high-profile signing of Virgil van Dijk last season. He believes that signings like Van Dijk and Salah have proved to be key in Klopp’s development of the Merseysiders.

“I remember they had a problem in their defensive moments and bought some people - for example Van Dijk - with a good investment and the result is we are looking at them today and their progress,” he said.

He went on heap praise Liverpool saying, “I think the Premier League is now the best and most important competition in the world for the teams, with Spain, maybe Italy and Germany. But, I think here are the best teams and players and now the leader in the table is Liverpool - and it is because they are doing things very well.”
