Super Cup Indian Player Ratings: Anirudh Thapa proves his worth in Chennaiyin's win over ATK
After a dismal campaign in the Indian Super League, the Marina Machans have turned their performance in style in the ongoing competition.
Chennaiyin FC had the last laugh in their encounter against ATK, with a 0-2 win over Steve Coppell's men. Chennaiyin FC have turned their season on its head and now have entered the finals of the Super Cup where John Gregory and co. will face high-flying FC Goa.
Anirudh Thapa was exceptional once again as he scored one and also came up with an assist for CK Vineeth. ATK who were in good form coming to this game had an off day and were mostly second best in all departments in comparison to their counterparts.
Here are the Indian player ratings from the match:
ATK
Debjit Majumder- 4.5
A poor display from the ATK custodian, as he could have done a whole lot more in all aspects of the game. Debjit was poor with his distribution and also failed to communicate with defenders properly. All in all, He simply looked off colour and wasn't up to his task throughout the game.
Pritam Kotal- 4.5
It is hilarious how Pritam Kotal's inconsistent performances throughout the season earn him the national team callup each and every time. Kotal's positioning was all over the place and even in attack he was outwitted by Jerry plus his deliveries were very wayward. It was a day to forget for the India international.
Ricky Lallawmawma- 5.5
It was battle of nerves for the young fullback, as he never looked like himself and allowed the pressure to get the better of him. He was kept busy throughout the game by Vineeth and nullified Ricky's attacking threat through his overlapping runs.
Jayesh Rane- 6.0
Among the Indian players from ATK, Jayesh Rane looked like going the extra yard and trying to create something for his attackers. He linked up well with Edu Garcia at times in the buildup and tried creating chances in the final third. However, the winger did not have any end product to show for his efforts throughout the match.
Eugeneson Lyngdoh- 5.0
A rare start for the midfield maestro, who has not been the same after the major injury that kept him out for the majority of last season. It was once again the same story for the Indian international as he chased shadows throughout the match and uncharacteristically lost possession on numerous occasions creating hardly any chances for the attackers.
Balwant Singh- 5.0
The man of the tournament for ATK failed to show up when his team needed the most. It was a crunch fixture and Steve Coppell needed the man in form, Balwant to step up again. However the 32-year old forward failed to turn up against the Machans as he was completely kept quiet by the likes of Mailson and Eli Sabia in the Chennaiyin defence.
Substitutions
Ankit Mukherjee- 5.5
Came in for struggling Pritam Kotal and did no harm to his reputation. He held his line pretty well and was decent defensively. However, he failed to create anything while moving up the field in attack.
Hitesh Sharma- 5.0
Steve Coppell's most predictable substitution through the season, as he throws in Hitesh Sharma in place of Jayesh Rane and it has hardly worked for them. But the Englishman repeats the same mistake every time as if he is out of ideas. Hitesh failed to link up with Balwant and could not break open the sturdy Chennaiyin defence.

Karanjit Singh- 6.5
The veteran between the sticks has redeemed himself after a dismal Indian Super League season. Karanjit proved his worth once again coming up with some top-class saves from close range. He was neat with his distribution as well and communicated with his defenders really well.
Laldinliana Renthlei - 6.0
Renthlei did his reputation no harm as he was not that active on the attack but his top-notch defensive work made up for it. He complimented the centre back pairing of Mailson and Sabaia really well keeping the ATK attackers quiet throughout.
Jerry Lalrinzuala - 7.5
A comeback for the youngster and how!! Jerry was the man of the moment for Chennaiyin. He came in for Tondonba in this match and probably gave his best performance this season. He was brilliant defensively and kept both Pritam Kotal and Edu Garcia at bay. It will be a selection dilemma for John Gregory in the final but Jerry has done his part.
Dhanpal Ganesh- 7.0
It was his best performance since coming back from injury, as Ganesh completely dominated the midfield battle and kept a seasoned campaigner like Lyngdoh under control. He intercepted most of the threatening attacking play from ATK and also linked well with Thapa, allowing the young midfielder to run in behind the defenders.
Anirudh Thapa- 7.5
Another top-notch performance from the India international, as he is getting better and better with every game. Thapa was brilliant with his trickery and linked well with Ganesh in midfield and drifted wide on occasions to team up with Vineeth on the counters. He came up with another top performance bagging a goal for himself and also orchestrating one for Vineeth.
CK Vineeth- 7.0
Vineeth as ever was tireless in his approach to the game and toiled hard in dropping deep and helping his midfielders in the attacking buildup. He also drifted wide to double up with his wingers causing all sorts of problems for both Ricky and Kotal. He was rewarded for his efforts as he scored the first goal from a great ball from Thapa.

Was brought on by Gregory in place on Chris Herd to add more men in attack and put the game to bed with a third goal. However, the third goal never came but Thoi Singh's energy and pace caused a lot of problems for the ATK defenders late on.
