Subhash Bhowmick blames lack of planning for league debacle, takes dig at Khalid Jamil
The veteran tactician thinks East Bengal did not have proper planning for the season prior to his arrival.
East Bengal technical director Subhash Bhowmick has taken a subtle hit at head coach Khalid Jamil, accusing his managerial techniques for the side’s fourth-place finish in the recently concluded I-League.
“In the I-League we did not have any planning, but now we have it. We finished fourth there (I-League) and we are in the finals here. You can see the difference,” Bhowmick stated after East Bengal’s win against FC Goa at the Kalinga Stadium on Monday.
Bhowmick, however, dismissed the assertion that champion’s luck played a part in the match and stated that he predicted this match was going to be a tough one. “I had said earlier in Kolkata itself that this Goa match will be the toughest one. The match would have finished in the first half itself had we not missed two easy chances inside 20 minutes. But, then I am happy that we won the match finally,” the veteran tactician added.
Despite being one of the highest scoring sides in India this season, East Bengal have come under scrutiny many times for being unable to convert chances on many occasions. The Red and Gold supporters have called ou veteran striker Dudu Omagbemi for his inability to convert 'easy' chances. However, it was the Nigeran striker who scored the only goal against FC Goa, earning a Super Cup final spot for the Kolkata giants.

Meanwhile, Bhowmick heaped praise on Gaurs coach Derrick Pereira and termed him as one of the most intelligent coaches in India. “I know what Derrick can do. I have coached him when he was a player and he is one of the top coaches the country has ever produced,” Bhowmick added.

It’s disappointing that we have not been able to convert those, but we are creating more opportunities,” Bhowmick said. He also revealed that he believed in Dudu’s goalscoring abilities and knew that the Nigerian would score against Goa.
East Bengal will meet one of either Mohun Bagan or Bengaluru FC in the final of the inaugural tournament, depending on the winner of Tuesday's clash.
