The striker has called for his team to stay focused at all times against Liverpool.

The UEFA Champions League semi-final clash between FC Barcelona and Liverpool will commence on Thursday when they meet for the first-leg in the Camp Nou. Luis Suarez has featured for both teams in his career and knows the challenge his former team will pose for his current club.

It was at Liverpool where the Uruguayan established himself as a top striker and secured a move to FC Barcelona after three years at the Merseyside.

Speaking in the context of their upcoming tie against The Reds, he said, “In the Champions League you can’t be distracted for a second because you end up paying for that. It’s true that in the last game at home to Manchester United we had 5-10 really bad minutes and we almost paid for that.”

“That shows you what the Champions League is and also what happened last season so we have to use that as experience. This team has too much experience to fall into that trap, we have to know what kind of game we are in and that if we want to get to the final and achieve our objectives then we cannot be distracted for a single minute in either of the two games.” said the 32-year-old.

Barcelona did not impress in their quarter-final first-leg against Manchester United, as they had a few spells where they looked the second-best in many areas. Referring to that period, the forward added that his team must perform to the levels expected of them. He concluded by saying that, ”We will have to play the best we have this season, even better than the ones we have played, knowing how tough it will be against Liverpool.”

Luis Suarez has had a tougher time in the Champions League where he is yet to open his account for the season, as the first goal in the tie against the Red Devils was adjudged as an own goal by Luke Shaw.

While he has 21 goals this term, the former Liverpool forward will be hoping to finally get on the scoresheet against his former club. However, that won’t be an easy task as he will be up against the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, who recently was awarded the PFA Player of the Year award.
