Incredible the way he played- Pep Guardiola on Phil Foden
The Spanish tactician believes the youngster is England's 'diamond' in making.
Premier League's Manchester City sealed a berth in the knockout stage topping their group in UEFA Champions League after an emphatic win against Hoffenheim. Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City, was ecstatic by the style of play and was most impressed by youngster Phil Foden. The Spanish coach insists that the 18-year-old player is England's gem for the future.
The FIFA U17 World Cup winner almost scored twice when his team fell behind in just 16 minutes on the field as he was given the first Champions League start of the season amidst the injury crisis around the Etihad Stadium.
"Phil was incredible the way he played. I would never have doubts about the quality of that guy -- not just with the ball," Guardiola said in a media interaction after the game.
"He looks skinny, not strong, but he's really really strong. He's an outstanding young player, I think England has a diamond," Pep added.
"I know it's not easy when you are with the big clubs. Few 18-year-olds could play regularly, competing with Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and David Silva. He's special, he has had minutes and in the future will have a lot of them. He played like a real man -- he was so good."
The team is struggling with injuries to regular players, with Kevin De Bryune and Sergio Aguero training ahead of the game but were rested instead. As reported, they are in contention in the game against Everton on Saturday as they look to go past Liverpool to regain the top position in the league.
"When you lose it's important to break [the run] immediately," he added. "Now in less than 61 hours we have another game against Everton."
"We have to prepare and go to the fridge, sleep there and recover as quick as possible for that game."
