Khel Now takes a look at the market values of the two squads and ponders how this battle of the heavyweights will pan out over two legs.

Two of the biggest squads of European Football are locking horns against each other in one of the most anticipated UEFA Champions League seasons so far and with Neymar finally coming out of Lionel Messi's shadow, it is a mouthwatering 180 minutes or so of action. The financial backing of these clubs is massive and it is a merry for the fans to watch them play against each other. oth the teams are known for breaking transfer records and are full of stars with their market values touching the sky.

Khel Now presents a department-wise comparison of market values and tries to predict the result of the most awaited match.

MARKET VALUES | Goalkeepers
MARKET VALUE Italy MARKET VALUE
£16.20m  Keylor Navas Alphonse Areola  £13.50m
£5.40m Kiko Casilla Kevin Trapp £7.20m
£21.60mm TOTAL TOTAL £20.70mm
                                (Data from transfermarkt.co.uk)

The difference between the market values of goalkeepers is a mere £0.9m.  Keylor has been a quality shot-stopper for the Spanish giants since the departure of legend Iker Casillas. The Costa Rican has the highest market value among the four goalkeepers with £16.20m.

On the other hand, Areola is steadily growing into a quality goalkeeper. The Frenchman is yet to miss a game in Ligue 1 and has surely become PSG's first choice keeper. The backup keepers from both the sides are struggling to find a regular place in the team and are used only in few matches so far this season.

Both the keepers are in contention for making it to the top
MARKET VALUE | Defenders
MARKET VALUE Italy MARKET VALUE
£36.00m   Sergio Ramos  Marquinhos  £36.00m
 £36.00m  Rafael Varane   P.Kimpembe   £16.20m
£18.00m  Nacho Fernandez  Thiago Silva  £9.00m
£13.50m  Jesus Vallejo  Layvin Kurzawa  £19.80m
 £36.00m  Marcelo Y. Berchiche   £13.50m
 £18.00m  Theo Hernandez  T. Meunier  £13.50m
£40.50m   Dani Carvajal Dani Alves  £5.40m
£4.50m Achraf Hakimi
£202.50m TOTAL TOTAL £113.40m
                  (Data from transfermarkt.co.uk)

The reigning champions completely dwarf the French side in the comparison of market values for defenders. With a market value of £202.50m Real Madrid have on of the most valued defences in the world.

The likes of Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Marcelo have a market of £36m and Dani Carvajal, the Spanish full-back who has been the standout performer for Real Madrid so far this season tops the charts with a market value of £40.50m.

PSG has refrained from spending hefty amounts on their defence like they have done to strengthen their midfield and attacking positions with Marquinhos (£36m) being the only player having a market value higher than £20m. Other notable players are full-backs Layvin Kurzawa, Yuri Berchiche, Thomas Meunier and the young Presnel centre-back Kimpembe.

Real Madrid seem to have a more solid defence as compared to the French side. It will be interesting to see how the attacking tactics of PSG sustain in front of Madrid's strong defence.

With a difference of £112.4m Real Madrid once again out value PSG in terms of midfielders. Madrid's midfield has an upper hand on performance too. The likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Isco who can tear any defence apart with their pinpoint passes and dribbling runs are the major threats to PSG's defence.

On the other side, with players Marco like Verratti, Thiago Motta, Adrien Rabiot and Javier Pastore have to display their top game if they want to outscore the well-balanced and settled midfield of Madrid.

PSG's spending spree in the summer transfer window which brought Neymar and Kylian Mbappe to Parc des Princes helps them to outshine Real Madrid in terms of comparison between the market values of attackers. PSG have been in sensational form this season scoring goals for fun. All their attackers have contributed equally to their domination in Ligue 1 and as well as in the Champions League matches so far. Neymar who has the highest market value among all the strikers has scored six goals in as many matches. He will surely prove a difficult player to handle for Madrid's defence.

However, Real Madrid who are struggling to set a firm foot in La Liga are in completely different form in the Champions League. Madrid's star striker Cristiano Ronaldo who is having a not so good La Liga season has been a nuisance for teams in the Champions League. Los Blancos' all-time top scorer has already amassed nine goals in six matches so far in the UCL this season. Given his current form, it will be difficult for PSG to stop him from getting on the scoresheet again.

Out of both teams, Madrid seem to have an upper edge given their recent form and the quality of game they have displayed so far in Champions League. However, PSG's highly priced forwards pose agreat thread to Madrid balanced defence.

It will be interesting to see which way the tie goes and whose tactics and style overcome the other, PSG's high-pressing and attacking or Real Madrid's swift counter-attacks.
