The legendary midfielder was unhappy with the way the Red Devils performed despite winning the game.

It is not unknown now, the fact that Manchester United are having a bad season. Even as they are winning games, that is certainly not the performance their fans are looking for. The club’s legendary midfielder Paul Scholes has, since the start of the season, constantly criticised the team’s performance as well as manager Jose Mourinho’s tactics.

The Red Devils recently won a Champions League tie  1-0 against Swiss club Young Boys at the Old Trafford and booked a spot in the round of 16. However, Scholes was far for impressed with the team’s display as Marouane Fellaini, yet again, scored in the injury time to hand them over with a win. “I thought they were awful tonight. I thought they were terrible, second half especially,” he said while speaking to BT Sport.

The former England international is of the view that United can underperform against any team this season. He has also previously spoken about the lack of creativity in the team’s attacking and it was certainly the same case during the last game.

"We have seen they could play any team and not perform or score goals. I think if they play against a half decent team there, they get beat tonight."

"Creativity is a big problem in that team. Fred,  we don’t know too much about him," he added. "That midfield worries me. How does that midfield open up a team that’s going to sit back and counter."

The 44-year-old is clearly disappointed with the way the Red Devils performed despite the result. He went on to express his views and take on the game.

"I like to see partnerships in teams. A midfield player seeing a centre-forward, having a link with him. I just don’t see it in this team, I just don’t see a midfield player who’s going to look at a centre-forward."

"We know Fellaini and Matic are not going to be threading passes. I can see Rashford making runs but I can’t see a player who’s going to pass the ball to him."

Scholes went to add saying, "You need to have a link in your team. Partnerships where you know what the other person is going to do. I think this is why they're so disjointed. I think if they're going to score tonight, Martial, Rashford and Lingard are going to have to do it by themselves."

On the other hand, Mourinho looked very happy with the result as he also whirled a water-bottle tray on the ground near the dugout in excitement when Fellaini scored the last-gasp winner. The Portuguese is grateful to enter into the next round of the European competition despite having a bad start elsewhere in the Premier League. In their next game, United visit Southampton at the Saint Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.
