The Goa Professional League witnessed yet another comeback as Panjim Footballers clawed back to down Velsao SCC 3-2 at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Tuesday.

It was a tale of two halves as Panjim scored three goals in the second half to overcome Velsao’s first half two goals.

Akash Sanadi scored a 77th minute match-winner from the penalty spot after Llyod Cardozo (60') and Alston Camotio (58') netted for Panjim in second half. Earlier, Joywin Carneiro (20') and Romario Da Costa (41') gave Velsao SCC lead in the first half.

Velsao took the lead converting from a set piece when Inacio Colaco’s freekick was headed in by Joywin Carneiro.

Velsao SCC played good football which was a treat to the eye. Bersal Viegas missed a chance to consolidate the lead when his shot ballooned over the bar off a Shubham Rao Desai corner kick.

At the other end, Panjim had a chance to restore parity but captain Kunal Kundaikar’s effort was shot straight to the keeper.

At the other end, Velsao doubled the account when Janio Fernandes’ back was intercepted by Romario Da Costa and the lad’s shot landed in the goal despite brushing off Panjim goalkeeper’s arm.

In the second half, Panjim Footballers coach Anthony Vaz made a tactical switch brining on Mahesh Kumar for Lakesh Gawas and the move paid off as Panjim played better football. Panjim Footballers had a good chance to pull back a goal. Alston Camotio who ran down the right flank, shot straight at the keeper but the rebound fell to Llyod Cardozo who headed wide.

However, they soon scored in the 58th minute through Alston who scored from the left wing with a power packed strike.

Panjim Footballers made it all square at the hour mark when Llyod tapped in a simple cross from Joyson, 2-2. Later, Shubham Rao Desai crossed to Laiwang Bohham but he headed wide.

There was a moment of beauty when Llyod Cardozo brilliantly chipped the ball over three Velsao defender for Cyril Dias and the lad’s first time half volley narrowly missed the mark.

Velsao SCC keeper Presley Mascarenhas brought down Panjim Footballers player Chandan Gawas in the box and referee pointed straight to the keeper. Akash Sanadi stepped up coolly converted from the spot, 3-2.

Minutes later Chandan Gawas did everything right and played square to Llyod in the box but the last man wasted the chance with a casual attempt much to the dismay of hundreds of fans who showed their frustrations from the stands.
