Willis Plaza, Jovel Martins and Shurbert Pereira scored a goal each for the Red Machines.
Churchill Brothers put up a strong second half display to beat Velsao Sports and Cultural Club 3-0 in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League at Nagoa Panchayat ground, Nagoa, on Saturday.
Willis Plaza (61’), Jovel Martins (66’) and Shurbert Pereira (83’) scored a goal each for the Red Machines. Velsao SCC knew it wasn't going to be easy playing against a strong Churchill Brothers side which had Willis Plaza in their attack.
However, the first half wasn't as expected as Velsao’s Leny Pereira and Allen Fernandes did exceptionally well in the heart of Velsao’s defence supported by Shubham Rao on the flank. Churchill Brothers tried every possible plan to break the rival half, but the high defensive line of Velsao made it difficult for the opponents.

After much probing, Churchill Brothers tried their luck from distance but his time to an alert Velsao goalkeeper kept them in the game. Red Machines’ Jovel Martins tried his luck with a fierce left foot strike from a distance but the effort hit the post crossbar before brushing Velsao’s keeper Presley Mascarenhas.
Churchill Brothers’ Meldon Silva had an excellent first half as the former FC Goa development team player won every tackle on the field. With scores level at the break, the second was sure to witness some action.
However, Churchill Brothers’ attack finally fount the rhythm as Clencio Pinto and Willis Plaza began connecting well as their chemistry is getting stronger every passing game.

Willis with his physic and Clencio with his bace combined for the team’s first goal. Clencio on receiving the ball in the midfield created some space and played Willis through on goal and this time the foreign striker slammed the ball past Presley, who could have done better as the keeper committed too early.
But before his commit, the Velsao defenders too fumbled with this move. Coach Ajay Acharya was left fuming on the sidelines who was constantly backing the defence line in pinning Plaza all this while.
Soon Velsao SCC were at receiving end. The side which gave their best conceded another soft goal when Jovel Martin’s cross was poorly dealt by the keeper which rolled in the goal which trying to block the effort, surely the keeper wouldn't want to remember that miss.
Velsao’s Bersal Viegas, Sadik Shaikh and Inacio Colaco’s form should be considered a positive for Ajay Acharya in the future games. Finally, second half substitute Shubert Pereira scored the team’s third goal with a powerful shot which had little to no chance for the keeper to react. This is the second win in a row for the Red Machines.
