Guardian Angel SC scored a hard fought 1-0 win over Panjim Footballers in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Wednesday.

In the first half, Musa and Beneston missed glorious chances for Guardian Angel while Cyril and Chandon fumbled for Panjim Footballers. First, Guardian Angel SC Kimram Fernandes played a through balled to Beneston at goal but the striker failed to score.
In the 13th minute Guardian Angel SC’s Kimram came close to scoring but Panjim keeper Preston Rego pulled off stunning save to deny the former Dempo SC defender when he was fed by Lincoln’s cross. At the other end, Panjim Footballers’ Cyril found the back of the net but unluckily he was just found offside. The first half scores were 0-0.
In the second half the action continued with both sides once again not taking their chances. Guardian Angel SC’s foreign recruit and Beneston connected once again but Panjim Footballers’ keeper Preston came with yet another save. The keeper had a standout game for Panjim coming to their sides rescue.

Later Chandon should have put Panjim ahead when Joyson played in at goal but with only keeper at his mercy, the player fumbled. However minutes later, Panjim’s Camoti hit the ball at the back of the net from a direct free-kick only to flagged offside.
At the other end, Guardian Ange SC scored in the 73rd minute when Musa set up Aslan at goal and this time the latter made no mistake to send the handful of Curchorem fans in joy. Guardian Angel SC looked much relieved after many missed chances. They had yet another chance when Beneston Barretto played a aerial pass to Agnelo, but once again the keeper came with a save.
Panjim tried desperately to score the levelled and had another shot at goal through Lloyd Cardozo but it was easily collected by the keeper. “Both the sides played well. We had plenty of chances and we should have taken them. But ultimately we got the three points and I am happy with the win. I will work with the team to rectify our flaws and come and play better in coming games,” said Guardian Angel SC coach Riston Rodrigues.
