9. First-ever gold in Lawn Bowls
Indian women’s fours lawn bowls team created history at the Commonwealth Games 2022 where they bagged the gold medal for the first time in the sport. This was a phenomenal feat for the country in Birmingham. Lovely Choubey, Pinki Singh, Nayanmoni Saika, and Rupa Rani Tirkey defeated South Africa 17-10 in the gold medal match to create history. This was the first-ever medal for India in Lawn Bowls.

Avinash Mukund Sable won an important medal for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022 where he won the silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase event. After a disappointing run at the Commonwealth Games, Manika Batra scripted history by becoming the first-ever female player from India to win a medal at the continental meet. She won bronze after defeating World No. 6 Hina Hayata. It was India’s first medal at the Asian Cup since Chetan Baboor’s bronze in the year 2000.
5. Nikhat Zareen’s gold in IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship
Another superstar in making is Nikhat Zareen who recently won a gold medal at the World Championship in Istanbul, Turkey. She defeated Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas 5-0 to script history. With this medal, she became the fifth Indian to win a world title. Before her, Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL, and Lekha KC bagged gold at the event.
4. Superstar Mirabai’s historic silver at World Championships
Despite wrist issues, Indian star Mirabai Chanu won a historic silver medal in Columbia at the World Weightlifting Championships in the 49 kg category. Her achievements also include a gold at the Commonwealth Games which was a sure shot medal for her. The weightlifter from Imphal picked up an injury now after participating in the event in Columbia. This shows how important this World Championships medal is for her.
3. ‘Gold’ on debut for Rudrankksh Patil
Perhaps the most surprising sporting achievement for India in 2022 was the gold in ISSF Shooting World Championships. Excellent performance from the young shooter Rudrankksh Patil as he bagged gold on his World Championship debut in the men’s 10m air rifle event in Egypt this year. The young lad defeated Danillo Sollazo to clinch the gold medal. This was surely one of the best moments of 2022 when it comes to Indian sports achievements.
2. Neeraj Chopra: Man with ‘Golden Arm’
Javelin Throw was never that popular among Indian fans before this powerhouse known as Neeraj Chopra. He not only won the all-time gold medal at the Olympics last year but continued his form in 2022 with a remarkable victory at the World Athletics Championships where he bagged the silver medal. The icing on the cake came when Neeraj bagged his first Diamond League title this year. Now, calling him the best in the world won’t be wrong.
