Both teams share a healthy rivalry in the sport.
After facing a setback in FIH Hockey World Cup, The Indian men’s hockey team are set to start afresh in FIH Men’s Hockey Pro League 2022-23 against Germany. India face the reigning World Champions Germany in Rourkela on Friday. Olympic success brought joy to Indian faces yet they failed to secure a humble position in the Hockey World Cup at home. India were knocked out by New Zealand in cross-over round. Since then Hockey India has made some big changes in the setup.
The Indian team will be entering the field with some new and young faces. Word Cup loss prompted selectors to bring in some fresh faces and take a few tough calls for the future. Germany being a World Champion team will be a tough challenge for the Indian team. Germany played dominating hockey throughout the tournament to secure the World Cup title. Their performance will surely come handy while playing India and Australia in Rourkela.
The Indian Hockey team has made some big changes in the setup. There are lots of names missing and also they have changed the vice–captain of the team. Once considered a wall in defense, Amit Rohidas has missed out on selection for the FIH Men’s Hockey Pro League games against Germany and Australia. Hardik Singh will be replacing Rohidas as Vice–captain of the team. Selectors have also dropped big names like Krishan Bahadur Pathak, Simranjeet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh, and a few others from the World Cup squad.
When we talk about the head-to-head stats between India and Germany, Germans dominate the game. On paper as well as on performance Germany look to be the better side. India defeated Germany twice in 2021 and 2022 and also won their Tokyo Olympics bronze medal by defeating the current World Champions.
