The 2022 BWF World Championships are in full swing in the city of Tokyo, Japan. The event saw several high-profile clashes in various different categories till now. One of the favourites for the Men’s Singles title, Lakshya Sen sailed into the pre-quarters alongside compatriot Prannoy H.S who caused a huge upset by defeating Kento Momota of Japan.

The tournament is one of badminton’s most prestigious tournaments. Japan is the host country for the 2022 edition of the tournament. All the top shuttlers across the globe made their way to Tokyo for the championship. The race for gold in the various categories is set to be intense. A 26-strong contingent will be participating for India at the BWF World Championships.

Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu were also supposed to be in action today but they received a walkover after their opponents opted their names out of the tournament due to injury. They will now directly compete in the quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships 2022.

Prannoy H.S. was exquisite in his performance against second seed Kento Momota. He beat the Japanese on his own turf by a 21-17 21-16 score. The 2022 CWG gold medallist Lakshya Sen will face Prannoy in Round 3 after a 21-17, 21-10 win over Spain’s Luis Enrique Penalver. Kidambi Srikanth, last year’s silver medallist was at the receiving end of a shock defeat by Zhao Junpeng. The Chinese shuttler won by 21-9, 21-17 inside 34 minutes only.
