The Olympic silver medalist Chanu will directly compete for the medal in the final at Commonwealth Games 2022.

Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 commenced with a spectacular opening ceremony on July 28. Indian stars PV Sindhu and Maninder Singh led the Indian contingent at the glittering Commonwealth opening ceremony event. Weightlifting: Mirabai Chanu to directly fight for the medal

Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Mirabai Chanu is all set to compete in the final of the 49kg category at the CWG 2022. The champion from Manipur surprised everyone after bagging silver in Tokyo, and the stage was even bigger than the current multi-nation event. This time, it should not be too difficult for the Padma Shri awardee to stand on the podium once again.

In the 55kg men’s category, Sanket Sagar will compete directly in the medal, while Gururaja Poojary will fight in the 61kg men’s category in the final. Another Indian, Bindyarani Devi, will compete in the final on (31st July).

Hockey: Indian women to face Wales in the pool stage

Back-to-back games for the Indian women’s hockey team as they look to beat Wales in their second game. Wales would have an upper advantage because of the home turf, while the Indian women would be looking to settle their past record against them.

In the previous edition of the Commonwealth Games, Wales defeated India 3-2 on the Gold Coast and there can be no better stage than the CWG to take revenge.
