This was Srikanth's second successive medal win in singles at Commonwealth Games.

Indian Badminton star Kidambi Srikanth won the bronze medal in men’s singles at the Commonwealth Games 2022. He beat Jason Teh of Singapore 21-15, 21-18 in the men's singles bronze medal match. Despite the defeat, the courageous effort shown by Teh was not less than a medal either. The Singaporean suffered from cramps during the final few points of the match but fought until the end.

Kidambi Srikanth, on the other hand, deserved every bit of it after some phenomenal performances in the men’s singles event. This is Srikanth's fourth medal at the Commonwealth Games, of which two medals came in this edition. Srikanth clinched silver in the mixed team event earlier adding to his gold from the 2018 edition. He had also won silver in men's singles at Gold Coast in 2018.

Earlier on the day, the experienced shuttler suffered a 21-13, 19-21,10-21 defeat against the 42nd ranked Tze Yong NG in the Men’s Singles semifinal.

After winning the first set, Srikanth appeared confident in the match, taking a 19-18 lead in the second set. However, Yong came back strongly to win the set. The Malaysian was fast to grab the third set as well, leaving Srikanth clueless in the end.

This was the second time at the CWG 2022 that Tze Yong beat Kidambi Srikanth. Earlier, in the Mixed team event final, Yong turned out to be the better player that day.

In the Round of 16, Srikanth defeated Sri Lanka’s Dumindu Abeywickrama 21-9, 21-12. His magnificent performance continued against Toby Penty in the quarterfinals as well, with a 21-19, 21-17 victory. Undoubtedly, the Indian star would have preferred to win gold, but he nonetheless he will be pleased with his performance at CWG 2022.

Other Indian players, including Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu, have stormed into the final of their respective singles events. Both of them will play their gold medal match on Monday. While Lakshya plays his match against Malaysia’s NG Yong, Sindhu will compete for the gold medal against Canada’s Michelle Li.

She would not want to miss this opportunity this time, as her own teammate, Saina Nehwal, defeated her during the final of the 2018 Gold Coast.
