The long jumper will go in with confidence in the second round in Thailand in December.
Jeswin Aldrin of India wins the Golden Fly Series meet in Lucerne, Liechtenstein on Sunday. He made a jump of 8.12 meters to finish on top. Radek Juska of the Czech Republic finished second with a 7.70m jump. While Henrik Flatnes came third with a 7.66m jump. The other Indian competing at the event Praveen Chitravel ended at the fourth position with a jump of 7.58m.
Jeswin Aldrin outperforms after World Championships drop
At the Federation Cup in Calicut, Jeswin Aldrin, India's No. 2 long jumper, jumped 8.37 meters (wind assisted) and 8.26 meters. After his performance deteriorated and he failed to clear the 8-meter mark, the AFI dropped him from the World Championships squad.
"Really Happy with 8.12m in Golden Fly Series in Liechtenstein. It’s been a long season one more round to go before the end of this season. Thanks for having me here.”
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) then asked him to participate in two trials, in which he jumped 7.99 and 7.93 meters, respectively. Despite the AFI's request that he jump closer to 8.10 meters which unfortunately he failed to, he was chosen for the World Championships. And with his jump of 7.78 meters, Aldrin finished ninth in his qualification group at the World Championships, failing to leave a mark on the meet.
As the season comes to a close, his confidence will be boosted by an eight-meter jump in Lucerne on Sunday.
