India will be looking to end the tournament with as many as two gold medals.
India had a mixed bag on Day 5 at the India Open 2022. World Championship bronze medalist Lakshya Sen was the top performer, as he reached the finals and will be looking to start the year with a title. However, India's biggest heartbreak was PV Sindhu's defeat in the semi-finals.
In the women's doubles, Haritha Manazhiyil Harinarayan and Ashna Roy tried their best, but were no match to the Thai pairing of Benyapa and Nutakarn Aimsaard.
Indian youngster Akarshi Kashyap, who showed a great fight in this tournament, fell short against Busanan Ongbamrangphun in the semi-finals.
However, India's star duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty joined Lakshya Sen in the finals with a sparkling win in the semi-finals.
Therefore, the last day of the India Open 2022 is set for some exciting final clashes, but the Indians will have their eyes on two important matches.
Men's Singles
Lakshya Sen will look for redemption when he steps on the court in the finals of the India Open 2022. Sen was in great form at the World Championship until he lost out against compatriot Srikanth Kidambi in the semi-final. However, at the Indian Open, Sen has continued his good form, as he overcame the Thai challenge of NG Tze Yong in the semi-final.
The youngster started slowly and went down in the first game. But, he came from behind brilliantly, winning the next two games to setup a final clash against Loh Kean Yew.
In an exclusive interview with Khel Now, Sen had said that he would like to start the season on a positive note, with a medal win at the India Open. It will be interesting to if the 20-year-old can hold his own against the World Championship gold medalist.
Doubles
In doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are India's only hope and that has been the case for the last few years now. The Satwik-Chirag duo defeated France's Fabien Delrue and William Villeger. They completely dominated the first game, but then had a tough time in the second. However in the end, they sealed the match in straight games to reach the finals.
The star Indian duo will now go up against Indonesia's Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in the finals of the India Open 2022. While the Indian duo will be satisfied with their efforts in the tournament, they would still like to finish the campaign with the title. But, it will be a titanic clash as the top two seeds will take on each other.
