Aishwary Pratap Singh bags gold on Day 7 at ISSF World Cup
Indian shooters are leading the pack after sensational performances at the event.
The ongoing 2022 ISSF World Cup in Changwon, South Korea has been very entertaining. Some of the finest shooting athletes from across the globe have shown their skills at this prestigious event in the last few days. Among the serious talent on display, Indian shooters have won a lot of accolades.
Despite the intense competition, the Indian contingent has established itself as the leader in terms of winning most golds and total medals on the seventh day of the event. Whether it is individual or team events, Indian shooting athletes have won medals in both categories across men’s and women’s events.
There was more joy on Saturday for the Indian fans in particular. Here is a look at the day’s action from the 2022 ISSF World Cup in Changwon, South Korea:
50m Rifle 3 Positions Men
Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar has clinched gold in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men event for India. The exceptional shooter represented India at the Tokyo Olympics. He was brilliant in the qualification round too, finishing in first place with 593 points. In the gold medal match, he beat Hungary’s Zakan Pekler 16-12 to win India’s fourth gold at the 2022 ISSF World Cup in Changwon.
50M Rifle 3 Positions Women Qualification
India’s Anjum Moudgil was amongst the competitors in the 50M Rifle 3 Positions Women qualification round. In a lukewarm performance, she finished sixth with 586 points and qualified for the Ranking round tomorrow. The 2018 World Championships silver medallist must have expected a better performance. She will have a chance to make a charge for the medals on 17th July 2022.
25m Pistol Women
The youngest Indian to win gold at the ISSF World Cup, Manu Bhaker disappoints by missing out on a medal in the 25m Pistol Women event. She finished eighth in the qualification after the Precision and Rapid rounds. She later secured a place in the medal round by finishing first in the Ranking Round. Simranpreet Kaur (DNS) and Rhythm Sangwan(14th) could not place high enough in qualification to make it into the Ranking round.
Manu Bhaker, an Olympian, finished fourth in the medal round among four competitors. It was a heavy blow to see the pistol ace miss out as Xiu Hong Teh of Singapore won gold. After all, there are huge expectations on Bhaker’s shoulders who has a history of success in this tournament.
