Neeraj Chopra made country proud, notes PM Modi on Mann ki Baat
The honourable Prime Minister also spoke on the achievements of Mithali Raj and Khelo India Youth Games 2021.
The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi often addresses the nation through his airings ‘Mann Ki Baat’. Various topics from around the country are discussed in the show. In the latest episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ the Prime Minister discussed the sports scenario of the country and acknowledged the various achievements of Indians in sports.
Proud to be hosting Chess Olympiad
India is going to host the 44th Chess Olympiad. Chennai will be the city where the prestigious tournament takes place. Indian officials have strived hard to promote the upcoming mega-event by organizing nationwide torch relays. The Prime Minister addressed that in his speech.
“India is going to host an International tournament of such a sport which originated in India centuries ago. The Chess Olympiad is starting from 28 July. This time more than 180 countries are participating in the Chess Olympiad,” the Honourable PM mentioned.
Neeraj Chopra keeps on winning
Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra was back in the news with his double wins. The Olympics gold medalist won the silver in Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland, breaking his own national record in the process. He also won the gold in the Kuortane games.
Speaking on the Haryana boy's achievements, PM Modi stated, “Recently our Olympic gold medalist was back in the headlines. After the Olympics, he has added again to his list of achievements. Neeraj won the silver medal in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland, breaking his own Javelin Throw record. In the Kuortane Games, Neeraj once again made the country proud by winning Gold.”
An emotional goodbye
Earlier this month cricketer Mithali Raj retired after a glorious career which spanned more than 20 years. The entire Indian sports fraternity congratulated the record run-scorer for her career after she made the announcement. Her achievements were acknowledged and praised by the Prime Minister as well.
“I would like to discuss about one of India’s best cricketers Mithali Raj. She had announced her retirement from Cricket earlier this month which has made many fans emotional. Mithali is not only an extraordinary player but has also been an inspiration to many other players. I wish the best to Mithali for her future,” Narendra Modi exclaimed.
Khelo India Youth Games records
The Prime Minister mentioned that 12 national records were created at the Khelo India Youth Games with 11 of them coming from women athletes. Out of those 12 records Manipur weightlifter Martina Devi bagged a total of 8 National records.
The Prime Minister also said that several athletes who competed at the games this year came from humble families and their parents had a major role to play in the life of those athletes. Modi mentioned Adil Altaf, a tailor’s son from Srinagar, who won the 70km road cycling race at KIYG 2021 and made the entire valley of Jammu and Kashmir proud.
PM Modi also mentioned gold medal-winning weightlifters L Dhanush and Kajol Sargar. A Chennai carpenter’s son, L Dhanush, won weightlifting gold medals at the games, while Kajol from Sangli, Maharashtra, dabbled between helping her tea vendor father and weightlifting training.
