Manu Bhaker donates ₹1 lakh in fight against coronavirus pandemic

Star Indian shooter Manu Bhaker has donated ₹1 lakh to the Haryana relief find to help the state government fight against the rapidly-spreading Coronavirus pandemic.

The young shooting sensation, who is a Commonwealth Games and Youth Olympics champion, took to social media on Monday to announce her contribution. She belongs to the Jhajjar district in Haryana.

Manu Bhaker tweeted, "This is the time when only the lives of the people of the country matter and all of us will have to do what we can to save them. I contribute 1 lakh rupees to the Haryana Corona Cares Fund by myself and hope that you all too support the country in this hour of disaster by contributing something from the other side."

The Youth Olympics gold-medallist also told everyone to contribute to the fight against the ongoing health crisis. Manu Bhaker said, “I hope all of you will also donate and help the country during this time."

Many Indian sports stars have already donated to the cause. Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar donated ₹50 lakh last week, while former cricketer Suresh Raina also made the contribution of ₹52 lakh.

Star Shuttler P V Sindhu, wrestler Bajrang Punia and sprinter Hima Das have also come forward to give financial aid to fight the Coronavirus pandemic. While Sindhu gave ₹5 lakh each to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Chief Minister Relief Funds, Punia donated his six months salary.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) donated ₹51 crores to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. The coronavirus outbreak has affected over 700,000 people in the world and also cause around 34,000 deaths.

The number of cases in India have gone over 1,000-mark with 27 people succumbing to the disease.
