Tokyo Olympics Day 7 Preview: Mary Kom, PV Sindhu returns in action

Tokyo Olympics Day 7 will once again witness several high-profile Indian athletes in action. On Thursday, several Indian medal hopefuls will be seen at Tokyo 2020. The Indian shooting contingent has been the biggest disappointment so far, however, young sensation Manu Bhaker will once again be on display in the day.

A couple of them will have the final chance to come up with the goods at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. Apart from Manu Bhaker, Mary Kom and PV Sindhu - the Indian men’s hockey team, Atanu Das, Sajan Prakash and many others will be returning to action.

Golf: Men’s Individual Stroke Play

The Indian golfers will finally make their appearance at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics on day 7. Experienced pair of Anirban Lahiri and Udayan Mane will be representing India in the men's individual stroke play category.

Lahiri is one of India's finest golfers. He had broken into the top 100 in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time in 2014. This was after he had a consistent season, which included two victories on the Asian Tour. As for Mane, he has won 11 times on the Professional Golf Tour of India.

The event is scheduled to begin at 4:00 AM IST.

Rowing: Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls Final B

The Indian duo of Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh will be competing in lightweight men's double sculls final B category. The event will begin at 5:20 AM IST.

Shooting: Women’s 25m Pistol

Bhaker has her last chance to clinch a medal

Teenage shooting sensation Manu Bhaker will appear in her third and final event in the women's 25m air pistol individual event. There were high hopes on the shoulders of the 19-year-olds going into the Olympics. However, Bhaker failed to clear the qualification round in the women’s 10m air pistol event, owing to an equipment malfunction.

After that, she and Saurabh Chaudhary again failed to deliver in the mixed team event. This will be a final chance to redeem herself in Tokyo.

Apart from her, World No. 2 Rahi Sarnobat will also be in action in this event. The qualifications round will begin at 5:30 AM IST.

Men’s Hockey: India Vs Argentina

Expectations for a podium finish from the Indian men’s hockey team are quite high this time around. The Men in Blue had started the Olympics campaign with a 3-2 victory over New Zealand. However, they were trounced 7-1 by World No. 1 Australia in the following match.

The Manpreet Singh-led team got their campaign right back on track in their third match. They produced a morale-boosting performance in their third match against Spain, beating the Europeans 3-0 on Tuesday.

India will be facing reigning Olympic champions Argentina in their next game. The Men in Blue had a fine tour in Buenos Aires prior to the Olympics. As such, they will be in a confident mood ahead of facing a familiar opponent at the Oi Hockey Stadium.

Graham Reid's side are currently in second place in Group A. A victory will almost certainly guarantee them a place in the knockout rounds. The match will begin at 6:00 AM IST.

Archery: Men’s Individual – Atanu Das Vs Yu-Cheng Deng

There are high hopes on Atanu Das in the men's individual recurve event. The 29-year-old is placed in the top 10 of the world rankings. Das had won an individual gold medal at the Archery World Cup in Guatemala City. Can he deliver in Tokyo?

His opponent will be Chinese Taipei's Yu-Cheng Deng. The match will begin at 7:31 AM IST.

Sailing: Men’s One Person Dinghy - Vishnu Saravanan

India's Vishnu Saravanan will be in action in this event. The event will resume at 8:35 AM IST.

Sailing: Women’s One Person Dinghy - Nethra Kumanan

Lone Indian female sailor Nethra Kumanan will yet again take to the waters of Tokyo. The event will resume at 8:45 AM IST.

Sailing: Men's Skiff - Ganapathy Kelapanda, Varun Thakkar

Ganapathy Kelapanda (helm) and Varun Thakkar (crew) will be representing India at the men's skiff 49er races. The event will resume at 8:35 AM in Zushi on day 7.

Boxing: Men’s Super Heavyweight – Satish Kumar Vs Ricardo Brown

The eagerly anticipated Olympics debut of Satish Kumar will take place on Thursday. Satish is the first-ever Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics in the super heavyweight category. The 32-year-old's Round of 16 opponent will be Jamaican Ricardo Brown.

The bout will begin at 8:48 AM IST.

Boxing: Women’s Flyweight – Mary Kom Vs Ingrit Victoria Valencia

Mary Kom will look to continue her winning run

Six-time world champion Mary Kom will be looking to continue her winning momentum at the Tokyo Olympics. The Indian boxing icon saw off the challenge of Dominican Republic's Miguelina Garcia Hernandez in the Round of 32. Colombian star Ingrit Victoria Valencia will face her at the Kokugikan Arena on Thursday.

The Round of 16 bout in the women's flyweight category will begin at 3:36 PM IST.

Swimming: Men’s 100m Butterfly - Sajan Prakash

Indian swimmer Sajan Prakash had delivered a decent performance in the men's 200m butterfly heats. He finished at the fourth place but ultimately failed to make it through to the next round. However, Prakash improved on his Rio 2016 timings.

The 27-year-old will be hoping for a better showing on day 7 of the Tokyo Olympics when he competes at the men's 100m butterfly heats. The event will begin at 4:16 PM IST.

Badminton: Women’s Singles - PV Sindhu

Ace Indian badminton star PV Sindhu will appear in the Round of 16 of the women's singles badminton. She will be facing Denmark's Mia Blichfeldt. Sindhu is ranked World No. 7, with her 23-year-old opponent placed at World No. 12.

The event will begin at 6:15 AM IST.
