A record 121 Indians are representing the country at the quadrennial event.

After postponement at 2020, the Tokyo Olympics is now truly underway. The entire world turns towards Tokyo as the quadrennial event advances to deeper stages as the athletes scripts history.

For India, the country is featuring strong participation at the Tokyo Olympics, with a record 121 athletes representing the tricolour. These players, coming from different states of the country, will participate in 18 sports at the Tokyo Olympics. Let us take a look at all the events these Indian athletes are participating and the schedule of the same.

Athletics – Track

400m hurdles Men

30th July -Heat: MP Jabir finished the race with a timing of 50.77 more than a minute short than the qualification mark.

Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Noah Nirmal Tom, Amoj Jacob, Arokia Rajiv, Naganathan Pandi will represent India.

20km Walk Men

5th Aug – Race: Indian runner Sandeep Kumar failed to get a podium finish despite a strong start. At one point, Kumar was in the 2nd place and looking a surprise contender for a medal. However, he fell off towards the end and finished on 23rd place. 

India’s two other runners, Rahul Rohilla and KT Irfan, finished in 47th spot and 51st position respectively.

50km Walk Men

6th Aug – Race : Gurpreet Singh hasn’t finished his walk. It’s a humongous task, in the heat and humidity of Tokyo

3000m steeplechase men

30th July – Heat 2: Avinash Sable  finished in the 7th spot making a national record in the process with a timing of 8:18:12 but failed to qualify for the final.

100m Women

30th July – Round 1: Dutee Chand finishes 7th with a timing of 11:54 and fails to qualify to the finals.

200m Women

2nd Aug – Round 1: Disappointing race for Dutee Chand as she finishes last in this 200m heat. However, she has set her seasonal best this time with a 23.8s timing. A disappointing end to her campaign!

20 km walk Women

6th Aug – Race (1:00 PM)

Priyanka Goswami and Bhawna Jat are competing in this event.

4 x 400m relay mixed

30th July – Round 1- Heat 2: Indian team consisting of Sarthak Bhambri, Alex Antony, Revathi Veeramani, Subha Venkatesan, Dhanlakshmi Sekhar finished last in their heat with timing of 3:19.93

4th Aug – Qualifying Round Group A: Neeraj Chopra qualified to the final with 86.65m throw.

4th Aug – Qualifying Round Group B: Shivpal Singh failed to qualify to the final as his best 76.40m throw was not good enough to qualify.

Women’s Javelin Throw

3rd Aug – Qualifying Round: Annu Rani fails to qualify for the finals as she finished 14th with throw of 54.04m.

Women’s Discus Throw

31st July – Kamalpreet Kaur qualified for the final with throw of 64M whereas Seema Punia failed to qualify for finals as her best throw of 60.57M was not good enough.

2nd Aug – Final : Valarie Allman of the USA wins gold, Kristin Pudenz of Germany wins silver and Yaime Perez of Cuba wins bronze. India's Kamalpreet Kaur finishes in 6th place. That's the best-ever performance by an Indian in discus throw at the Olympic Games.

Men’s shot put

3rd Aug- Qualifying Round:  India’s Tajinderpal Singh Toor finishes in 13th place in the qualifiers and failed to qualify for finals.

Men’s long jump

31st July – Qualifying Round: Murali Sreeshankar failed to qualify for final with jump of 7.69m.

A great performance from Rankireddy and Shetty. They played very well in all three games. However, despite being at the same points as the Indonesian and Chinese Taipei duos, they have failed to qualify for the next round. A very unfortunate end to a promising campaign for two excellent shuttlers. They can take confidence from performing so well in what was one of the toughest groups at the Olympics.

30th July : In day 1 of the dressage round Fouaad Mirza finished with a pretty impressive 28 penalty points. This score means that at the end of the today's leg where 42 riders too part, Mirza finished 7th.

31st July: In day 2 of the dressage round Fouaad Mirza finished 9th at end of day 2.

2nd August: Fouaad Mirza and his horse Seigneur Medicott ends up with 59.70. They scored a 12.40 penalty on the final jump. Mirze finished 23rd in the final.

Men’s Individual

29th July : Men's Individual Stroke Play Round 1Anirban Lahiri ends his 1st round with a solid 67 (4-under) with 6 birdies and 2 bogeys. He is at Tied 8th currently and will look to go even lower for the 2nd Round tomorrow. Whereas, Udayan Mane is at 60th place (last) after round 1.

31th July : Men's Individual Stroke Play Round 2 : Anirban Lahiri ranked 28 whereas Udayan Mane ranked 55 after round 2.

1st August

Indian golf pair Anirban Lahiri and Udayan Mane continued their performance in the men’s individual stroke play round 4. The duo started the event well but fell down in the rankings as the competition went on.

Anirban Lahiri finished at the 42nd place with 279 while Udayan Mane finished in the 56th spot with 287 points. 

Women’s Individual

4th August: Round 1

Aditi Ashok was at the top of the rankings after 17 shots with 5 birdies. However, she got a bogey at the 18th hole, taking her to -4 on the scoresheet. She stands T2, and was inarguably one of the best golfers on Day 1. 

Her compatriot Diksha Dagar lost her composure midway, and has five bogeys so far. She’s T56, at the far end of the table. It’ll be an uphill task for the talented youngster. We’ll keep you updated with all the action from Day 2.

5th August: Round 2

Indian golfer Aditi Ashok is still going strong into Round 2 of the women’s individual stroke play category and sits tied second with a total score of 133 on day 14 of the Tokyo Olympics. She’s currently looking for a real possibility for a medal and will have to continue her good work in the coming rounds.

Diksha Dagar, however, is still unable to get anywhere close to the top and is tied in 53rd with a score of 148.

5th August: Round 3

Star Indian golfer Aditi Ashok is on the cusp of winning an Olympic medal. She finished the third round in second position with a total of 201 points.

Another Indian golfer Diksha Dagar is on T51 after the third round with a total of 220. She would like to improve her performance to gain more confidence.

6th August: Round 4

Gymnastics

25th July – Indian artistic gymnast Pranati Nayak failed to qualify for the All-Around Final at Ariake Gymnastics Centre on Sunday. Pranati came 12th in subdivision 1 after recording a total score of 42.565 over the four categories in Women's Artistic Gymnastics.

Judo

Women’s 48 kg

24th July- Sushila Likmabam lost against Hungary’s E. Csernovizki with scoreline of 0-10.

Rowing

Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls

24th July –Heats: Indian duo of Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh finish 5th in Heat 2 of Men’s lightweight double sculls, losing out on qualification.

Arvind Singh and Arjun Lal Jat qualifies for the repechage round. They finished fifth in the men’s lightweight double sculls heat. Competing in heat 2, the Indian pair finished with a timing of 6:40.33 in the six-team field.

25th July: The Indian duo of Arjun Jat and Arvind Singh finished third in the repechage Round 2, thus qualifying for the semi-finals. They are in the running for a potential bronze medal in the Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls.

28th July- Semi Final: Arjun Jat and Arvind Singh finished sixth in the Semifinal A/B 2 

29th July - Final Final B: Arjun Jat and Arvind Singh finished fifth in the final B.

Laser Men

25th July: Race 01 : In the Men’s one person dinghy race, India’s Saravanan Vishnu finished 14th after the completion of the event. He had 14 points from Race 1. 

26th July Race 2: Vishnu Saravanan end the race 2 in 20th position. Race 3: Vishnu Saravanan end the race 3 in 24th position.

27th July Race 4: Vishnu Saravanan end the race 4 in 23rd position. Race 5: Vishnu Saravanan end the race 5 in 22nd position.

28th July Race 6: Vishnu Saravanan end the race 6 in 12th position.

Skeet Men

25th July – Angad Bajwa finished at the 11th spot with 73 points. On the other hand, Mairaj Ahmad Khan finished in the 25th place with a score of 71 after Day 1 of qualification.

26th July - Indian duo of Angad Singh and Mairaj Ahmad fail to qualify into the finals. Only top-six athletes were to qualify while Angad finished in 18th place with 120 points and Mairaj finished in 25th place with 117 points out of a possible 125 after Day 2 of qualification.

10m Air Pistol Men

24th July – Saurabh Chaudhary finishes at 7th place in the final. (586 +137.4 Points) Abhishek Verma misses out berth in the final after a 17th place finish in the qualification. (575 Points)

10m Air Rifle Men

25th July – India’s Deepak Kumar and Divyansh Singh failed to make it to the finals. Deepak finished in 26th place with 624.7 points, while Divyansh scored 622.8, finishing at the 32nd position. Only the first eight advanced to the finals.

50m Rifle 3 Positions Men

2nd Aug – Qualification: Aishwary Tomar finished 21st whereas Sanjeev Rajput finished 32nd in the qualification and failed to qualify for the final.

10m Air Pistol Women

25th July – Manu Bhaker finishes in 12th place with 575/600, while Yashaswini Singh Deswal ends one spot below in 13th, courtesy of 574/600 points to her credit and failed to qualify.

25m Pistol Women

29th July – Manu Bhaker is in fifth place after the end of the day’s qualification rounds. Her compatriot Rahi Sarnobat occupies the 23rd position. The top 8 shooters will qualify for the finals.

30th July – Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat failed to qualify for the finals.

10m Air Rifle Women

24th July – Elavenil Valarivan failed to qualify for the final with the core of 626.5 (Rank 16)

Apurvi Chandela failed to qualify for the final with the core of 621.9 (Rank 36)

50m Rifle 3 Positions Women

31st July – Veterans Anjum Moudgil ranked 15 and Tejaswini Sawant ranked 33 after qualifiers and failed to qualify for final.

10m Air Rifle Mixed Team

27th July – Elavenil and Divyansh finished the event at 12th position with a total score of 626.5. while Anjum Moudgil and Deepak Kumar end in the 18th spot with a total score of 623.8 points.

10m Air Pistol Mixed Team

27th July – Both teams consisted of Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker, Abhishek Verma and Yashashwini Deswal failed to qualify for finals.

Swimming

Men’s 100m backstroke

25th July – Heat 1: Srihari Nataraj finished with a timing of 54.31 seconds, thus finishing at the 5th position in the heats. He is officially out of the competition.

Men's 100m butterfly

28th July - Heat 2 : Sajan Prakash finished in the fourth position in the men’s 200m butterfly heat. He has finished in second place in the men’s 100m butterfly heat however, he fails to make the cut for the semi-finals.

Men’s 200m butterfly

26th July – Heat 2 : Sajan Prakash failed to reach the semi-finals of the men’s 200m butterfly event after finishing 1.26 seconds behind the 16th place in Day 4 of Tokyo Olympics . He, however, finished fourth in his heats with a timing of 1:57.22 minutes, 2.15 seconds ahead of his timing at the Rio Olympics.

Women’s 100m backstroke

25th July – Heat 1: Indian swimmer Maana Patel failed to qualify for 100m backstroke semifinals. She finished second in the heats, however, missed the mark by 5.2 seconds with a timing of 1:05.24.

24th July : Mirabai Chanu bags silver, earns India’s first medal at Tokyo Olympics

 Mirabai managed the best lift of 87kgs in the snatch category, before lifting an exceptional 115kgs – which set her personal record – in the ‘Clean & Jerk’ category to finish with an overall tally of 202kgs.
