There were a few notable upsets on the third day of the prestigious tournament.

The 2022 edition of the Wimbledon is in the initial stages and already delivering sensational tennis action. There were plenty of high-profile players in action on Wednesday, trying to record wins and move ahead in the tournament. Novak Djokovic was playing at the Centre Court and made short work of his opponent to move into the third round.

The top seed in Men’s Singles took two hours to record a 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 win over Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia. He will meet his fellow countryman Miomir Kecmanović, the 25th seed in the third round.

Disappointment for Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray

British star and hope Emma Raducanu saw a shock elimination from the Women’s Singles. The US Open champion lost her second-round fixture in straight sets to Caroline Garcia. The Frenchwoman eased her way into the third round with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Post the completion of the match, Raducanu was limping due to an injury that also had an impact on her performance during the game.

Andy Murray was another high-profile British player in action. He came up against tenth seed John Isner but could not overturn a two-set deficit. Isner was too good for Murray at the end and secured a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 victory to march into the third round.

Game over for Casper Ruud and Anett Kontaveit

Number three seed in Men’s Singles bracket Casper Ruud was at the end of a shocking upset. The 23-year-old was defeated by Ugo Humbert of France in four sets. The match went on for two hours and 36 minutes that saw Humbert win by a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 score.

Another major upset saw the number two seed in Women’s Singles crash out in the second round of the Wimbledon. Anett Kontaveit of Estonia lost her tie to Jule Niemeier of Germany. The 97th-ranked player got the better of World No. 3 by a 6-4, 6-0 inside 58 minutes.

Doubles action

The sixth seeds Sania Mirza and Lucie Hradecka lost their first-round contest to Magdalena Frech and Beatriz Haddad Maia. Playing her final Women’s Doubles tournament at the Wimbledon, Mirza and her partner lost their way after winning the first set to lose the game 6-4, 4-6, 2-6 in two hours and five minutes.

In Men’s Doubles, second seeds Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic of Croatia cruised into the next round with a 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 win over Benoit Paire and Albert Ramos-Vinolas. Over at the Woman’s Doubles, second seeds Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova secured a 6-1, 6-1 win over Elixane Lechemia and Nuria Parrizas Diaz to move into the next round.
