Iga Swiatek crashes out of the Wimbledon 2022
Elsewhere Rafael Nadal has moved to the next round of the prestigious event.
The ongoing 2022 edition of the Wimbledon Championships saw one of the biggest upsets yet. Iga Swiatek lost her third-round contest against Alizé Cornet in Women’s Singles. World No. 37 in WTA singles rankings shocked the spectators inside the No.1 Court by beating World No. 1 in straight sets. The Frenchwoman took her place in the fourth round of the tournament by beating the top seed thanks to a 6-4, 6-2 score. It took her one hour and 33 minutes for her to beat the Pole.
Alizé Cornet will now play against Ajla Tomljanović of Australia, who herself made it to the fourth round by causing an upset. The unseeded athlete beat 13th seed Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic by a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 score. There is a lot of excitement for the upcoming contest between the giant killers.
The Centre Court was witness to a sensational game between Rafael Nadal and Lorenzo Sonego, who is the 27th seed. As expected, the Spaniard raced ahead by winning the first set by 6-1 inside an hour.

A major highlight of the day was the clash between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios in the third round of the Men’s singles.

There were several important matches that took place on Saturday across the board. The fourth seed in Women’s Singles, Paula Badosa of Spain got the better of Petra Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon champion. World No.4 won the contest by a 7-5, 7-6(7-4) score in two hours and five minutes. In an all-American tie between Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova, the latter came away as the victor thanks to a 6-7(4-7), 6-2, 6-1 scoreline.
Jessica Pegula of the United States was the end of an upset as she went down to Petra Martic of Croatia. Despite the difference of 71 places in their rankings, the lower-ranked Martic came away as the winner by a 6-2, 7-6(7-5) score. In Men’s Singles, Liam Broady of the UK lost his third-round tie to Alex de Minaur of Australia. The 19th seed won by 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 inside two hours and 25 minutes.
Doubles Action
Top seeds in both Women’s Doubles and Men’s Doubles made their way into the next rounds. Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury eased past Fabrice Martin and Hugo Nys by 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. Over in Women’s Doubles, top seeds Elise Mertens and Shuai Zhang demolished Viktorija Golubic and Camila Osorio by 6-3, 6-2 to head into the next round.
