The awardees will recieve their awards from the President of India on November 30th.

The sports ministry announced the list of winners in respective categories for the year 2021-2022. 25 athletes have won the Arjuna award followed by a single nomination for Khel Ratna - "The highest sporting honour in India"

Achanta Sharath Kamal has been the sole nomination for the Khel Ratna award having previously won the Padma Shri - "India's fourth highest civilian honour" in 2019. 2022 should be one of the most memorable years in Sharath Kamal's career having won a record four medals (3 gold and a silver ) at the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham. He holds the record for winning the highest number of Senior Nationals (10) eclipsing the feat held by Kamalesh Mehta (8).

Lakshya Sen, Sable, Nikhat in list for Arjuna Award

Avinash Sable has been a revelation for team India in the 3000m steeplechase. He has broken his own National Record seven times and is by far the best in the event compared with the other athletes. After a poor outing at the World Championships, he came back strongly to win a silver medal breaking the streak held by the Kenyans. Kenyans since 1992 swept away the podium places but Avinash Sable fought pretty hard and missed the gold medal by a slight margin.

Lakshya Sen the 22-year-old from Uttarakhand has had a breakthrough 2022 season having first reached the finals of the All England Badminton Championships and then was part of the Thomas Cup winning team. In the finals of the Thomas Cup, he gave India the much-needed lead defeating higher-ranked Ginting. Also, Lakshya Sen won the gold medal in the singles category at the Commonwealth Games.

Nikhat Zareen the 25-year-old from Hyderabad won the gold medal in the World Championships held in early 2022. Zareen had a good start to her career and was frequently pushing for a spot on the senior side. She capitalized on her opportunity to win the gold on her first attempt showing how eager and confident she was. She is the perfect find to take over the mantle from Mary Kom who has the pillar of Woman Boxing in India.
