Indian Sports Calendar in 2023: Major events to look forward to in April
The Badminton Asia Championships will be a key competition for Indian athletes.
The Indian sports calendar for April will be busy as the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifying cycle for a few sports (Badminton and Fencing) starts this month. Indian athletes will be eager to take part in the maximum competitions available. Among the events that will highlight the month is the forthcoming Badminton Asia Championships as well as the Asian Wrestling Championships.
Here we take a look at the events to follow in the month of April in the Indian sports calendar.
Tennis
Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Sriram Balaji will be taking part in the ATP 250 Grand Prix Hassan II. Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni after winning the ATP 75 Girona Challenger will participate in the ATP 250 Houston Open.

Badminton
Orleans Masters will be the lone event in the April BWF Tour cycle and the last tournament before the Olympic qualifying cycle. The Indian shuttlers will look to end the European tour on a positive note and start the next Asian tour in May.

Shooting
India had a successful stint at the ISSF Bhopal World Cup and will look to continue the same form going forward in April.

Table Tennis
Manika Batra will be the lone Indian (woman) to take part in the WTT Champions (Xinxiang and Macau).

Wrestling
The wrestling bandwagon shifts to Kazakhstan after the World Wrestling Federation stripped India of its hosting rights. Top Indian wrestlers will not be taking part in the event and it will be a good test for others to showcase their talent.

Archery
The first World Cup Stage I is set to be held in Antalya, Turkey and is the first major event of the season. Indian archers have been busy participating in the February and March National Championships and the Asia Cup.

Fencing
Top-seeded Indians in the men’s and women’s section (Karan Singh and Bhavani Devi) are set to take part in the Sabre Seoul Grand Prix.

Indian women’s football team is placed in Group G alongside the Kyrgyz Republic and Turkmenistan in the first round of the Olympic qualifiers.

Top Indian cyclists (Esow Alben and Ronaldo Singh) are set to participate in the Track Nations Cup.
