Goa scheduled to host National Games 2023 from October 25th to November 9th

National Games 2023 is scheduled to be held in Goa from October 25th to November 9th, confirmed by states sports minister Govind Gaude. Goa was intially set to host the last edition of the National Games but due to several reasons was shifted to Gujarat but this time it is set to host India’s own Olympic style competition in which several top stars have taken part.
Govind Gaude iterated, “there should be promotion of sports in the state due to the National Games. Our aim is to promote sports in the state in wake of the National Games. Also it is not just to create a sportsperson for Goa but he should also play in the national team.”
Also the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the grand event said Gaude in the assembly.
Reports suggest, the state government is set to release 2.54 crores for the associations as grants and Rs73 lakhs for cash prizes for the medal winners.
The inaugural edition was first held in Lahore, undivided India, in 1924 and was known as the Indian Olympic Games until 1938. Over the years, the numbers of sports have kept increasing gradually and this edition 43 sports are set to feature – seven more than the previous edition of 36.

Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) claimed the first spot in the medals table last year in Gujarat last by securing 128 medals overall. Maharashtra stood second by winning 140 medals (but had fewer gold medals 39 than SSCB). Powerhouse Haryana, were just a gold medal short – winning 38 and overall secured 116 medals.
