Cricket was last played in the 1900 edition.

In a historic decision, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved the inclusion of five new sports for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics Games. The move comes after a 123-year hiatus for cricket, a return for baseball/softball, and the introduction of flag football, lacrosse, and squash.

The proposal to include the five sports recommended by the LA28 Organizing Committee was opposed by only two of the 99 IOC members who voted.

Among these exciting additions, squash takes center stage, alongside baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse. This move marks a significant step forward for these sports, as they return to the world's most prestigious sporting event, having been absent from the Olympic stage for several years.

Squash, known for its dynamic and demanding nature, is a sport that boasts a passionate global following. While the IOC has embraced the sport's return, it's important to understand what makes squash unique. The game is played in a four-walled court with a small rubber ball, and players use a racquet to hit the ball against the front wall. The objective is to make it as difficult as possible for your opponent to return the ball while maintaining a rapid and highly competitive pace.

The World Squash Federation (WSF), US Squash, and the Professional Squash Association (PSA) expressed their gratitude to the IOC and the Organizing Committee of the LA28 Olympics for recognizing the value that squash brings to the Games. The inclusion of squash not only aligns with the IOC's mission to deliver an unparalleled experience but also leaves a lasting legacy in the Los Angeles community, offering local youth access and opportunities to play and compete in the sport for generations to come.

US Squash Chief Executive Kevin Klipstein emphasized the significance of the inclusion, stating, "The inclusion of squash in the LA28 Olympic Games is a significant breakthrough for the sport. Being part of the Olympic Games has been a long-held goal for the squash community." The opportunity to compete for Olympic gold and be part of the prestigious event is a dream come true for many athletes.

While squash takes the spotlight, baseball and softball, after enjoying global growth since their success at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, have been confirmed for inclusion in the LA28 Olympic Games. The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) expressed its delight and honor at the IOC's decision. Both sports have deep roots in the United States and are expected to contribute to the success of the LA28 Olympics, fostering a celebration of sport and unity.

Lacrosse also makes a triumphant return to the Olympics after more than a century. The IOC's vote to include lacrosse to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics is a historic moment for the sport, making it the first time it will feature as a medal sport since the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Lacrosse's inclusion, alongside other new sports, is a testament to the Olympic values of unity, diversity, and athletic excellence.

Flag football, a variant of American football, is set to make its Olympic debut in the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Known for its thrilling and high-octane gameplay, flag football will bring a unique dimension to the Olympic sports program. Its inclusion reflects the sport's growing popularity and will provide athletes with a platform to showcase their skills on the global stage.
