Five grand stadiums, 53k sitter football arena: Master plan of SVP Enclave to strengthen India's Olympics bid
India plans to bid for 2036 Olympics.
Ahmedabad’s Motera stadium, the world’s largest cricket venue, will be the main stage for the 2036 Olympics if India’s bid is successful, according to the recently finalized master plan of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Sports Enclave. The stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the athletics and cricket competitions of the Games.
The master plan also reveals that the SVP Sports Enclave will include a football stadium of Olympic standard with a capacity of 53,000, an aquatics center with 12,000 seats, a tennis center with 15,000 seats, and three arenas for basketball, gymnastics, and handball.
The state government is also exploring the possibility of hosting other major sporting events in the future, such as the World Aquatics Championships, World Athletics Championships, Asian Youth Games, Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, and others that are part of the Olympic programme, as per an official note on the master plan.
