LA28 reveals competition schedule for Paralympics 2028; check full sport-wise schedule

For the first time in Paralympic history, wheelchair rugby and boccia competitions will begin before the opening ceremony.
With 1,000 days left, the schedule for the much-awaited Paralympics 2028 was announced on Wednesday, November 19. The multi-sport competition will take place from August 15 to 27 in Los Angeles, California. It will be the first time since 1996 that the United States will be hosting the Paralympics.
Although, the opening ceremony takes place on August 15, the non-medal events of the sports like wheelchair rugby (August 13) and boccia (August 14) will have already begun. It marks the first time that the competitions in the showpiece tournament will begin before the opening ceremony.
A total of 560 events will take place across 23 sports with the presence of over 4,000 athletes. Notably, para climbing will make its Olympics debut in the 2028 edition and feature eight events (four each for men and women).
Meanwhile, sports like wheelchair rugby and sitting volleyball will have an extended format this time, where the teams losing in the preliminary round will have another chance to advance to the next round.
The 2024 Paris Paralympics saw China topping the standings with 220 medals, followed by the United Kingdom (124) and the United States (105).
Ileana Rodriguez, LA28 vice president of Paralympic strategy and relations, expressed her confidence in curating an “unforgettable experience” for the athletes and the audience. She told Reuters:
“Los Angeles’ first Paralympic Games means so much to all of us, and our teams have made it their mission to create a competition schedule guided by and geared toward the needs of the athletes.
