Argentina lead the last-five head-to-head record against India
The rivalry between India and Argentina in men’s hockey has grown into one of the most competitive contests in the modern game.
While India enjoy a stronger overall head-to-head record and a rich Olympic history with 13 medals, Argentina have made huge progress over the years claiming their first Olympic medal in 2016 which was a gold.
In fact, Argentina lead the last five meetings between the two sides, including a record 8-0 win in the 2026 FIH Pro League.
Though India historically dominated global hockey, particularly between 1928 and 1980, the recent results have witnessed these two teams coming closer in the current era.

#1 Argentina 8–0 India, Feb 12, 2026
India suffered a humiliating 0-8 defeat against Argentina in the FIH Men’s Pro League 2025–26 match in Rourkela, their worst-ever loss to the team. The game changed quickly after Harmanpreet Singh missed a penalty stroke in the first quarter.
Argentina took full control soon after, with Tomas Ruiz opening the scoring and Tomas Domene adding four goals in a dominant display.
By half-time, Argentina were already 7-0 ahead. India tried to respond in the second half and created a few chances, but Argentine goalkeeper Tomas Santiago made important saves. Domene scored again in the final minute to seal a commanding win for the visitors.
#2 Argentina 2–1 India, June 12, 2025
India lost 2-1 to Argentina in Amstelveen which marked their fourth straight defeat in the European leg of the FIH Pro League 2024-25.
Jugraj Singh gave India an early lead with a powerful penalty corner in the fourth minute. However, Tomas Domene equalised soon after and later scored again in the final quarter to put Argentina ahead.
India fought hard and created chances, including a late penalty stroke, but Jugraj’s effort was saved by goalkeeper Tomas Santiago. With this loss, India ended the Amsterdam leg without a win and now look ahead to matches in Antwerp.
#3 Argentina 4–3 India, June 11, 2025
India despite putting on a strong fight lost 4-3 to Argentina in the FIH Pro League 2024-25 match in Amstelveen.
Argentina took an early lead, but Harmanpreet Singh equalised in the first quarter. Lucas Martinez restored Argentina’s advantage before half-time.
In the third quarter, Harmanpreet scored again from a penalty stroke to make it 2-2, but Argentina quickly responded.
Abhishek then brought India level at 3-3 with a fine goal. However, Lucio Mendez scored in the final quarter to seal the win.
#4 India 1–1 Argentina, July 29, 2024
India played out a 1-1 draw against Argentina in their Pool B match at the Paris Olympics. Argentina took the lead in the 22nd minute through Lucas Martinez after a quick counterattack.
India had several chances before that, including multiple penalty corners, but couldn’t convert. Goalkeeper Thomas Santiago made some strong saves to keep Argentina ahead at half-time.
In the final minutes, India pushed hard and even took off goalkeeper Sreejesh to attack. After a series of penalty corners, Harmanpreet Singh finally scored with a powerful shot to level the match and earn India a valuable point.
#5 India 5–4 Argentina, May 26, 2024
India’s men’s hockey team defeated Argentina 5-4 in a thrilling FIH Pro League 2023-24 match in Antwerp. Captain Harmanpreet Singh was the star of the game, scoring a hat-trick, including two penalty strokes.
Araijeet Singh Hundal and Gurjant Singh also scored for India. Argentina fought hard and kept coming back, with four different players getting on the scoresheet.
The match was fast and attacking, especially in the final quarter when both teams scored quickly. Despite late pressure from Argentina, India held on to secure the win. The victory moved India up to second place in the Pro League standings.
