Sports absent from Paris Olympics included in LA Olympics 2028

There will be more more than 50 sporting disciplines taking place at LA Olympics 2028.

Each edition of the Summer Olympics brings changes and new additions. Following the conclusion of the Paris Olympics 2024, the upcoming LA Olympics 2028 is set to introduce further changes. Los Angeles will add a few sports that were not part of the Paris Games.

The LA Olympics 2028 is scheduled to take place from July 14 to July 30, 2028. Some events may begin before the official opening ceremony on July 14, depending on the organizers.

Five sports will be featured at the LA Olympics 2028 that were absent from the Paris Games. Two of these sports will make their Olympic debut, while three others, previously excluded, will make a return in Los Angeles.

Let’s take a look at sports which were not present at the Paris Olympics 2024 but will be seen in action at the LA Olympics 2028.

Baseball/ Softball

Baseball or softball was featured from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics till the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It was also seen during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but was not present at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Lacrosse

Lacrosse has been part of the Olympics twice. It had a brief history in the Summer Olympics, appearing in the 1904 St. Louis Games and the 1908 London Games. In both editions, only men’s events were held, with Canada winning the gold medal in each. At the LA Olympics 2028, Lacrosse will return with the “sixes” format, featuring both men’s and women’s events, with six players on each team.

Cricket

Cricket will also be making a comeback at the summer games during the LA Olympics 2028. Cricket was featured in the 1900 Paris Olympics but only included men’s events. At the LA Olympics 2028, the sport will make a return with matches played in the T20 format for both men and women. India is among the nations expected to compete for the top spot on the podium.
