COVID-19: A full list of Indian athletes who have tested positive

A number of Indian athletes have caught the Coronavirus ever since the pandemic hit India last year

India is struggling to cope up with second wave of COVID-19 . 3.5 lakh people are tested positive everyday on an average.

Indian athletes too had to bear the brunt of the coronavirus . With the Tokyo Olympics under three months away, here's a look at all the major athletes who have tested postive for COVID-19 so far .

Wrestling

Vinesh Phogat

India's biggest medal hope at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Phogat tested positive last year in August. The 26-year old Commonwealth games gold medalist couldn't attend her Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award induction as she was diagnosed at the time

Narsingh Yadav

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist tested positive way back in November 2020. He tested positive on the day he was supposed to return to international action after a four-year doping ban.

Gurpreet Singh

Before rejoining the national wrestling camp, the Commonwealth Championship gold medalist tested postitive with teammate Narsingh Yadav in 2020.

Divya Kakran

The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist and former Arjuna Awardee tested positive in November. This was two weeks before the individual World Cup in Belgrade.

Shooting

Rahi Sarnobat

The Asian Games gold medalist tested positive in March 2020 following the ISSF World Cup in Delhi. Sarnobat was the first shooter to qualify for the 2021 Olympics.

Deepak Kumar

Following Sarnobat's positive report, Kumar also tested positive at the same time. He is also Tokyo bound bagging the Olympic quota at the Doha Asian Championships in 2019.

Saurabh Chaudhury

Alongwith Sarnobat and Kumar, 18-year-old Saurabh Chaudhary also tested positive for the virus. The youngest ever Indian to win a gold at the Asian Games, Chaudhary is the youngest to stam his ticket to Tokyo.

Athletics

Jinson Jonson

India's first real chance at an Athletics medal in Tokyo, Jinson Johnson tested positive on April 13. The Asian games gold medalist is still recovering from the disease.

Priyanka Goswami

Tokyo bound runner Goswami tested positive for COVID-19 at the same time as Johnson. She is recovering at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru.

Boxing

Lovlina Borgohain

World no. 3 Borgohain caught the virus while on her trip to her home state of Assam. The two-time World Boxing Championship bronze medalist has since returned to action. She has become the first woman from Assam to qualify for the Olympics and the second boxer from the state to represent the country after Shiva Thapa

Ashish Kumar

The Asian Championship silver medalist tested positive in March. This was on the eve of the Boxam International final in Spain.

Simranjit Kaur

Kaur is the latest to test positive when 25-year-old was diagnosed in April during their camp at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. A World championship bronze medalist, kaur is one of the leading medal prospects for India in Tokyo.

Indian men's hockey team -

After the Indian hockey team returned to training in Bengaluru after a month long break, as many as five players tested positive. This includes Manpreet Singh, Krishan Pathak, Jaskaran Singh, Surender Kumar and Varun Kumar .

Rani Rampal

The latest victim of the virus, women's hockey team captain Rani Rampal tested positive. Six of her teammates and two support staff too caught the virus

Badminton

Saina Nehwal

The Olympic bronze medalist tested positive at the Thailand Open in January this year. She has still not qualified for Tokyo, and is in quite a tricky spot as the qualification window closes on June 15.

Parupalli Kashyap, Gurusai Dutt and Pranaav Jerry Chopra

All three shuttlers tested positive for COVID-19 after attending Gurusai Dutt's wedding reception in November 2020. The event turned out to be a super spreader of sorts
