The Los Angeles Olympics 2028 will see more than 800 events take place at the games.

The Paris Olympics 2024 have come to a close, and now all eyes are on Los Angeles as they get ready for the 2028 Games. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo officially handed over the Olympic flag to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass during the closing ceremony.

This will be the first time the Olympics return to the United States since Atlanta hosted the Games in 1996. It will also mark the fifth time the U.S. has hosted the Summer Olympics. As preparations begin, Los Angeles is gearing up to welcome athletes and spectators from around the world for the 34th edition of the Olympics

The LA Olympics 2028 will be held from July 14 till July 30 in 2028. The opening ceremony will be on July 14.

What is the PlayLA initiative?

The PlayLA is a joint initiative between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Los Angeles Olympics 2028. The program was launched in November 2021. It focuses on making sports available to children from age 5 to youngsters till the age of 17. The program will help nurture young athletes from all backgrounds.

Over 176,000 individuals have so far enrolled in the program as the IOC and Los Angeles Olympics 2028 have pledged support worth 160 million US dollars. 30 million dollars have already been invested as the program aims to support over 1 million children. The cost of the program is 10 US dollars and the fees are also subsidised for families who are financially backward.

The ‘car-free’ pledge was announced by Los Angeles in 2017 when they won the bid for the 2028 Olympics. The games will reportedly use public transportation such as buses which will be challenging.
