USA has seen young athletes win medals in track and field at the Olympis.
The Paris Olympics 2024 witnessed the sheer power and the dominance of American athletes. The USA contingent saw 592 athletes competing at the games. One of the youngest athletes in the contingent to win a medal was track and field sensation, Quincy Wilson.
He had competed in the 4x400m men’s relay event and ran in the opening round of the event. Wilson ran the first leg in 47.27 secs as USA finished second to qualify for the final. The 16-year-old did not feature in the final. He became the youngest male track and field athlete to win a gold at the Olympics.
Wilson secured the gold medal as he was part of the 4x400m relay team and had competed in the first round of the event. He is also the youngest track and field Olympian for the USA. Wilson broke a five decade American record at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Jim Ryun was the youngest American track and field athlete. He competed in the men’s 1500 metres event during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Ryun was 17 and finished second in heat 2. He finished ninth in the first semi-finals and did not qualify for the finals.

Wilson had finished sixth in the US Olympic trials in the men’s 400m. He was competing against athletes twice his age but it did not stop him from breaking records in the track. A sixth place finish guaranteed him a place in the 4x400m relay team.
The USA contingent will be filled with pride as they already found their next gold medal contender at the Olympics. Wilson will be under the limelight at the Los Angeles Olympics 2028.
He will be 20 years old at that time and can further lower his timings in front of the home crowd. Fans will be hoping for Wilson to break more records around the track and bring more accolades to the nation.
Quincy Wilson holds the under 18 world record in the 400m event. He ran in 44.20 secs during the Holloway Pro Classic event a month back. His timing is the second fastest in the history of the under 20 age division. It is the 11th fastest this season so far and he is the fourth fastest American in the event this season as of now.
