The Paralympics, held every four years, showcase the talents of athletes with disabilities from around the world. Since starting in 1948, the event has grown from a small gathering to a major international competition. Today, thousands of athletes compete in various sports, divided into categories based on their disabilities.
In recent years, Indian athletes have made their mark at the Paralympic Games, with several winning multiple medals in a single edition. While several Indian para athletes have won multiple medals at the Summer Games, only a few have managed to win multiple medals in a single edition. Let’s look at these standout performers.
Indian para-athletes with most medals in single edition of Paralympics
Preethi Pal — 2 medals (Paris Paralympics 2024)
Preethi Pal has made history at the 2024 Paris Paralympics by becoming the first Indian woman to win multiple medals in track and field events. Competing in the women’s T35 category, she earned two bronze medals—one in the 100m event on August 30 with a personal best of 14.21 seconds and another in the 200m event on September 1, clocking 30.01 seconds.
Her 100m medal marked India’s first-ever track medal at the Paralympics. In both races, Preethi finished behind China’s Xia Zhou and Qianqian Guo, who took gold and silver respectively.
Singhraj Adhana — 2 medals (Tokyo Paralympics 2020)
Singhraj Adhana’s path to Paralympic success came later in life. Born in 1982, Adhana took up shooting in his mid-30s after being encouraged by his family.
At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, Adhana competed in multiple pistol events. On August 31, 2021, he won bronze in the P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event. Just a few days later, on September 4, he improved to silver in the P4 mixed 50m pistol SH1 event.

Avani Lekhara — 2 medals (Tokyo Paralympics 2020)
Avani Lekhara’s journey to Paralympic glory began after a car accident at age 11 left her with a spinal cord injury. Despite this setback, Lekhara found her calling in shooting sports.
At the 2020 Tokyo Games, Lekhara made history. On August 30, 2021, she won gold in the 10m air rifle standing event. Her score of 249.6 points tied the world record and set a new Paralympic record. Just a few days later, on September 3, she added a bronze medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions event.
Joginder Singh Bedi — 3 medals (New York Paralympics 1984)
Joginder Singh Bedi set the standard for Indian para-athletes long before the country became a regular medal contender. At the 1984 New York Games, Bedi competed in multiple track and field events, showcasing his versatility.
In the shot put competition, Bedi secured a silver medal with a throw of 10.08 meters. He didn’t stop there, also winning bronze in both javelin throw (34.18 meters) and discus throw (28.16 meters).
