India lost to Netherlands 0-6 in the quarterfinals of the women’s team event at Paris Olympics 2024.
The Indian women’s archery team lost to the Netherlands 0-6 (51-52, 49-54, 48-53) in the quarter-final round of Paris Olympics 2024 on Sunday. The Indian trio of Bhajan Kaur, Deepika Kumari and Ankita Bhagat had entered the quarters after a remarkable performance to finish fourth in the ranking round.
With the top four finishing, they got a bye in the round of 16. This was the first time that both the Indian men’s team and women’s team got a bye in R16 and reached the quarterfinals. The Indian men’s team finished third and will start the campaign in Paris tomorrow.
The Indian women’s team was nervous at the start as Ankita Bhakat and Deepika Kumari started with a 7 while Bhajan Kaur hit a 10. The Netherlands replied with 9, 8, and 9 in the first three shots. The Indian team finished the set with 51 points after three 9’s at the end.

However, this was not enough to win, as the Netherlands managed to edge past India by one point and take the lead. The Indian team started the second set on a high note with 28 points (10, 10, and 8 by Deepika). The Netherlands responded with 26. However, the Indian women’s team couldn’t continue the momentum, as 6 by both Bhajan Kaur and Deepika Kumari made it worse for India.
India ended up losing the second set 49-54. Just as it seemed like the Indian women’s team could make a comeback, Ankita started the series with a 4, and all hopes for the Indian team were shattered. India couldn’t recover at all in the entire match and lost tamely to the Netherlands, with the final scoreline reading 6-0.
Bhajan Kaur was the consistent archer for India, with an average of 9.33 points, and was the only positive for the team. Ankita Bhakat’s average was 7.33, and Deepika’s average was 8. Both let the team down as the wait for the Archery medal continues.
