Paris Olympics 2024 Day 14 Results: Aman Sehrawat wins bronze; Indian relay teams disappoint

The Indian contingent secured a sixth medal on August 9.

It was a slow day for Indian athletes at Paris Olympics 2024 on Friday. Only a handful of the Indians were in action on August 9 (Day 14), but a medal was on the line in the wrestling discipline. Aman Sehrawat was to square off against Darian Toi Cruz of Puerto Rico in the bronze medal match of the men’s freestyle 57kg category.

All eyes were on the bronze medal bout as the Indian contingent waited for its first medal from the wrestling discipline. Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification, despite making the final of her category, had left a bitter taste and Aman Sehrawat’s loss in the semi-final made a lot of fans feel dejected.

However, the grappler delivered a brilliant performance to win the bronze medal. He beat the opponent by a 13-5 score to add a fifth bronze and a sixth overall medal to the Indian tally. In addition to Aman Sehrawat, Indian athletes were also involved across athletics and golf disciplines, hoping to live up to the expectations of the fans back home and push themselves beyond their limits.

It was a day to forget for Indian golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar as they both slipped to T40 and T42 spot in the rankings respectively after the conclusion of round 3 in women’s individual strokeplay. One more round is left in the event.

Indian sprinters in men’s 4x400m gave a good account of themselves but missed qualification by a whisker while the women’s 4x400m performance was below expectations.
