Due to a dispute and increased number of pairs, the men’s doubles draw has been postponed.

The Paris Olympics 2024 group stage draws are out for badminton barring the men’s doubles discipline. Indian men’s singles shuttlers yet again have landed in a very tough draw. The draw took place at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Friday (June 12)

Badminton events will get underway in Paris from August 27 and will continue until August 5, when the medal events are scheduled to take place.

Lakshya Sen, who will make his Olympic debut at Paris, has been drawn against the third-seed Jonatan Christie, and Julien Carraggi, alongside Tokyo Olympics fourth placed shuttler from Gautamela, Kevin Cordon.

HS Prannoy, on the other hand, has rather landed an easy group stage sharing with shuttlers from Vietnam and Germany. If both of the Indian men’s singles shuttlers manages to win their group stage matches, they would likely face each other in the pre-quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu avoided her arch nemesis An Se Young and Dr. Tai Tzu Ying. If she manages to top her group, Sindhu, is likely to face He Bing Jiao from China, whom she beat at Tokyo Olympics to win the bronze. Should Sindhu advance further, the Indian will meet reigning Olympic champion, Chen Yu Fei.

A point to be noted — Sindhu has never lost against any Chinese at the World Championships or Olympics, maintaining a clean 9-0 record.

In the women’s doubles draw, Ashwini-Tanisha have landed in a tough group alongside Japanese No. #1 duo Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida, Korea’s Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist pair Kim So Yeong/Kong Hee Yong and Australia No. #1 Setyana Mapasa/Angela Yu. They would need to pull off an upset if they are to reach the quarterfinals.
