Gael Monfils will be France’s most experienced ATP player at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The French Tennis Federation has announced its tennis team for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
The team is headlined by French No. #1 Ugo Humbert, who was eliminated in the first round at the 2024 Roland-Garros by Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego. He only reached the quarterfinals at the Monte Carlo Masters throughout the clay season.
Similarly, Authur Fils was also eliminated from the opening round at the French Open by Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi. Nevertheless, Fils reached the quarterfinals at the Madrid Open and won the Bordeaux Challenger. Apart from the two, Gael Monfils and Corentin Moutet have also secured a place at the Olympics on behalf of the hosts.
On the women’s front, Carolina Garcia will be leading the pack. The World No. #22 will be France’s biggest medal hope in tennis at the Olympics. A two-time French Open women’s doubles champion, Garcia is yet to achieve success in singles.
Varvara Gracheva has also secured a spot in the French Olympic squad. Gracheva did a commendable job at the 2024 French Open, as she reached the fourth round by defeating the likes of Maria Sakkari, Bernarda Pera and Irina-Camelia Begu.
She lost against eventual semi-finalist Mirra Andreeva in the fourth round. Thus, Gracheva has the potential to surprise her opponents on the big stage. Other than the two, Clara Burel and Diane Parry will also represent the hosts at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
