Lakshya Sen is looking to rewrite history for India at Paris Olympics 2024.
‘So Near Yet So Far’ seems to be a phrase that Indians have been using all through Paris Olympics 2024 as few athletes missed podium finishes by a whisker. On Day 9 of the quadrennial event, the Indian men’s hockey team started with an outstanding win beating Great Britain 4-2 in the penalty shootout.
But there was despair as Lovlina Borgohain lost to the top-seeded Li Qian of China in the quarterfinals to bring an end to the Boxing campaign. In Badminton, Lakshya Sen after an impressive start lost the advantage and the semifinals to Viktor Axelsen. He still has a chance to become the first Indian male shuttler to win an Olympic medal.
While shooting was India’s biggest hope in the start of Paris Olympics 2024, it has now began fading. Maheswari Chauhan in the Women’s Skeet Individual event went from a position of making it to the finals to finishing at a distant 14th with one series of shooting making the difference.
It was a similar story in the Men’s 25m Rapid Pistol event, Vijayveer Sidhu and Anish Bhanwala were in 3rd and 5th position at the half-way mark but their finish was not as good. But both Lakshya and Maheshwari will have a chance to redeem themselves on Monday. Along with them, let’s look at the medal hopefuls for India as Paris Olympics 2024 moves into its final week of competition.

India’s medal contenders on Day 10 of Paris Olympics 2024
Shooting – Skeet Mixed Team – Anant Jeet Singh Naruka & Maheshwari Chauhan (12:30 PM IST)
The Shooting contingent needs to fire shots on-target to bring medals for India. The Skeet Mixed Team is the final shooting event of the Paris Olympics 2024 and India will be represented by the duo of Anant Jeet Singh Naruka and Maheshwari Chauhan. Anant had a rather disappointing campaign in the Skeet Individual event finishing 24th in the rankings.

On the other hand, Maheswari Chauhan did exceedingly well in the first four series of shooting in the Individual event and was well in control to make it to the finals. But a poor last series with just 22 shots meant that she dropped from 5th position to 14th position. The pair would want to course-correct it in the Mixed Team event on Monday at Chateauroux – Shotgun Range.
Chauhan and Anant will have have three rounds each as the top four teams will enter the medal round. The top two teams will enter the final while the third and fourth placed team will contest for bronze.
Badminton – Men’s Singles – Lakshya Sen – Bronze Medal Match (6:00 PM IST)
Lakshya Sen had been on a dream run in this Paris Olympics till 3:51 PM yesterday. A flick serve was all that Denmark’s Viktor Alexsen needed as he came back from behind to book a place in the finals of men’s Badminton Singles. But it is not the end of all for Lakshya Sen who still can create history for India. He has already done it by becoming the first Indian to qualify for the semis in men’s Singles.
The 22-year-old could do one better by winning the bronze medal match on Monday. He will be up against Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia for the medal game. The Indian leads 3-1 in the head-to-head games including a win in the All England Championships earlier this year. The Commonwealth Gold medalist would want to repeat the result and take home the bronze. Lakshya will be in action at La Chapelle Arena Court 1.
