India has secured one medal till day 2 of the Paris Olympics.

Day 2 of the Paris Olympics 2024 was decent for India. PV Sindhu won her first match easily. In shooting, Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta did well enough to move forward in the 10m air rifle event in respective categories.

The big win of the day came from Manu Bhaker. She won a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event. This is special because it’s India’s first medal at Paris Olympics 2024 and the first time an Indian woman has won an Olympic medal in shooting. Manu did much better than she did in the last Olympics in Tokyo.

In table tennis, Sreeja Akula and Manika Batra won their games, but Sharath Kamal lost in a surprise defeat. Nikhat Zareen who was handed a tough draw started off with a rampant win against Germany’s Maxi Carina Kloetzer.

In the women’s archery team event, India’s chances for a medal slipped away. The team of Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Deepika Kumari competed hard but lost to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals. Despite some good shots, especially from Bhajan Kaur, the Indian archers struggled with strong winds and couldn’t overcome their opponents, losing 6-0.

However, India’s fortunes shone brighter in shooting. Manu Bhaker made history by winning a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event. This victory marks a significant milestone as Bhaker became the first Indian woman ever to win an Olympic medal in shooting. She performed consistently well, finishing third in both the qualifications and the final round, narrowly missing silver by a small margin.
