Paris Olympics 2024: Updated India schedule for Day 1, July 27

India could compete for their first medal on Saturday.

India’s campaign at Paris Olympics 2024 began on July 25 with impressive performances from its archers. Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat led the charge. Ankita scored 666 points, securing the 11th spot with 30 arrows in the 10s and 9 in the X circle. Alongside Bhajan Kaur (22nd) and Deepika Kumari (23rd), she helped India to fourth place with 1983 points.

Meanwhile, South Korea set a new Olympic record with 2046 points, led by Lim Sihyeon’s score of 694. The Indian women’s team, absent from the last two editions, reached the quarterfinals with Bhajan tallying 659 and Deepika 658 points.

On the men’s side, Dhiraj Bommadevara scored 681 (39-10s, 14-X), securing fourth place individually. With Tarundeep Rai (14th, 674 points) and Pravin Ramesh Jadhav (39th, 658 points), India placed third in team rankings with 2013 points, behind Korea (2049) and France (2025).

Ankita and Dhiraj also qualified for the mixed team event, with India finishing sixth overall in the rankings, signaling a strong start for Indian archery at the Paris Olympics.

Paris Olympics 2024 officially begins on July 27 and shooting serves as India’s first medalling round. India has fielded two strong teams of Sandeep Singh/Elavenil Valarivan and Arjun Singh Cheema/Ramita in the Mixed team 10m air rifle qualification round.
