China has recaptured the top position in the medal tally.

The Paris Olympics 2024 saw an intense competition in the medal tally on Day 15 of the event. With only one more day to go, athletes will try their best to push their nation to the top of the quadrennial event. China have regained their impressive form, while the USA have been dominating the track and field events.

The day started with Ethiopia winning their first gold at Paris Olympics 2024 through Tamirat Tola in the men’s marathon, who also broke the Olympic record in the process. Meanwhile, New Zealand had a successful outing with three gold medals.

In women’s individual stroke play in golf, Lydia Ko won gold and Lisa Carrington repeated the same in women’s kayak single 500m in canoe sprint. The golden run shifted to athletics as Hamish Kerr took gold in men’s high jump.

It was the end of the road for India at Paris Olympics 2024. Wrestler Reetika Hooda exited in the quarter-finals of women’s freestyle 76kg. Golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar could not deliver in the final round of women’s individual stroke play.

Updated medal tally after 10th August at Paris Olympics 2024

Table toppers China have now won a whopping 39 gold medals, 27 silver and 24 bronze. Liu Huanhua won gold in men’s 102kg weightlifting. Few hours later, Cao Yuan secured gold in men’s 10m platform diving.

The winning streak continued as the women’s table tennis team finished first and the duet free routine team won gold in artistic swimming. Next, 34-year-old Li Qian won gold in women’s 75kg final which was the nation’s 90th medal at Paris Olympics 2024.

Coming in second are the USA with 38 gold medals, 42 silver and 42 bronze. Their first gold of the day came in women’s football, as they beat Brazil in the final. Masai Russell clinched gold in women’s 100m hurdles in one of the closest races in history. The 4x400m relay brought in two gold medals as the men’s and women’s teams finished on top of the podium. The men’s basketball team won a close contest, as they beat hosts France.

In third place of the medal tally are Australia with 18 gold medals, 14 silver and 14 bronze. The women’s team won the silver medal in water polo, as they lost the final with a two-point difference. Jessica Hull finished second in women’s 1500m for the nation’s 50th medal at Paris Olympics 2024.

Maintaining the momentum at fourth place are Japan with 18 gold medals, 12 silver and 13 bronze. Sakura Motoki won gold with a crushing win the final of women’s 62kg freestyle wrestling. The nation also won their first athletics gold at Paris Olympics 2024, as Haruka Kitaguchi secured the win in women’s javelin throw.

Hosts France have jumped one place to fifth with 16 gold, 24 silver and 22 bronze. The men’s volleyball team started the proceedings with a gold medal. Althea Laurin took the gold medal in women’s 67kg+ taekwondo. There was heartbreak in basketball, as the men’s team lost to USA by 11 points in the finals. It was the final event of the day.
