Paris Olympics 2024: Updated medal tally after 3rd August 2024
The dominance of Chinese athletes continued on another busy day at Paris Olympics 2024.
The Paris Olympics 2024 in France have been filled with breathtaking moments and mind-blowing action. Fans have witnessed high-profile athletes push themselves to win medals for their respective countries. As the prestigious quadrennial multi-sport meet progresses with each passing day, the medal tally has been slight changes as the top contenders are vying for the throne.
Day 9 of Paris Olympics 2024 started with 21-year-old Yang Jiin winning the gold in women’s 25m pistol. India’s Manu Bhaker finished fourth as she was close to winning her record third medal at the games. Her performance was again the highlight for India as there were no medal winners for the nation on day 8.
Meanwhile it was a day for celebration for Philippines with Carlos Yulo winning the nation’s second Olympic gold. Yulo finished on top of the podium in men’s floor exercise under Artistic gymnastics. Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz had won the first Olympic gold for the nation in women’s 55kg division at Tokyo 2020.
South Korean domination in the archery discipline saw their athlete Lim Sihyeon beat Nam Suhyeon to win the women’s individual gold medal match.
Rajindra Campbell won Jamaica’s first medal at Paris Olympics 2024 in men’s shot put. There were no Jamaicans this time in women’s 100m as Julien Alfred won gold in the event and collected St.Lucia’s first Olympic medal.
Updated Medal Tally after 3rd August at Paris Olympics 2024
China hold the first position in the medal tally after 3rd August with 16 gold medals, 12 silver and nine bronze. Qinwen Zheng became the nation’s first tennis singles gold medallist as she beat Donna Vekic in the final. Chen Meng won gold in women’s singles table tennis as compatriot Sun Yingsha took silver.
It was the same story in badminton women’s doubles as the pair of Chen Qingchen-Jia Yifan defeated their companions, Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning in the final.
Day 8 of Paris Olympics 2024 saw USA winning 18 medals. They are still in second place though with 14 gold medals, 24 silver and 23 bronze. In men’s skeet shooting, Vincent Hancock and Conner Lynn Prince took gold and silver respectively. In women’s vault final under gymanstics, it was business as usual for Simone Biles with gold and Jade Carey winning bronze.
The men’s shot put final saw Ryan Crouser winning his third straight gold in the event. Fellow American, Joe Kovacs finished second for the third consecutive time at the Olympics. The dominance prevailed in swimming too as Katie Ledecky won the gold for the fourth successive edition in women’s 800m freestyle. USA ended the day with gold in mixed 4×100 medley relay and a world record in the event.
In third place at Paris Olympics 2024 medal tally is host nation France. It has won 12 gold medals, 14 silvers and 15 bronze. France started the day with a silver in women’s 25m pistol through Camille Jedrzejewski.
Few hours later, cyclists Valentin Madouas and Christophe Laporte won silver, bronze respectively in men’s road race. The highlight for France was when its mixed judo team won gold after defeating Japan by a single point.
Coming in fourth place in the medal tally of Paris Olympics 2024 is Australia with 12 gold medals, 8 silvers and seven bronze. The Aussies had a slow start to the day but gathered speed later. Grae Morris won the silver medal in men’s windsurfing under sailing.
In swimming, Kaylee Mckeown won the bronze medal in women’s 200m individual medley. 30 minutes later, Ariarne Titmus was in the podium with a silver in women’s 800m freestyle. Mckeown was again in the podium to collect the bronze medal in mixed 4x100m medley realy.
Great Britain is in fifth place of the Paris Olympics 2024 medal tally with 10 gold medals, 10 silvers and 13 bronze. Their day started with a bronze medal under Equestrian in dressage team grand prix special. Their only gold of the day came through men’s eight rowing.
